This interactive, musical toy has a graphics and a musical color-coding system to turn every song into a delightful game. The child plays along on a three-octave keyboard that plugs right into the television. Music is represented on the screen as moving images. At first, the images are colored to match the keys on the keyboard. They slowly move up from the bottom of the screen and pass over a line at the top. As the child pushes on the matching colored key, they hear themselves playing music. The tempo of the song can be sped up or slowed down and played with one or both hands. As the child progresses through the different song modes, game play gradually get a little more complicated. The images begin to scroll sideways and morph into colored musical notes. Eventually, the notes scroll to the side and are colored black, like a real music sheet. Kids will learn to read music by first identifying the keys on the keyboard, then associating the keys with notes. Best for children four through eight, this engaging toy can spark a life-long interest in music.Throw Out Your Sheet Music Rather than tedious practice methods, this toy improves your child's musical abilities using innovative Piano Wizard video game technology. The system includes a Family Favorites software cartridge with eight well-known songs and two warm up games. Your child may soon be able to play Heart and Soul and Old MacDonald, and many more songs. Additional cartridges are available for purchase with songs from popular children's television series and Christmas tunes. Plus, this system's interface is simple for kids to navigate and using the keyboard is a breeze. A brochure is included for parents with tips on choosing a piano teacher and musical development. This product measures 21-by-8.96-by 2.4 inches (LxWxH) and requires six D batteries.Features This is the perfect educational tool for peaking a child's interest in music. Not only does it use interactive technology combined with a traditional teaching approach, it has the bright colors and creative graphics of popular video games. Convenient and easy-to-use, it plugs right into your standard TV set and stores easily away. Great idea but poor quality and somewhat difficult to use

*by M***M on Reviewed in the United States on February 14, 2007*

I got this piano for my 4 year old daughter for Christmas. My first one did what happened to many other people. It stopped turning on after just two uses. My daughter really wanted a new one and so far this one is working. I think it's a great idea, but the music has been difficult for her to keep up with. I'm hoping she'll grow into it. She likes the games though. And she plays with it more just as a keyboard. It irritates me a little that you can't hear the keys play when the game cartridge is being used. You only hear the TV and I have to turn the TV way up to hear anything at all. Part of the way to learn is to hear what the key should sound like. I hate to give it such a low rate because I think it could be such a great thing, but it's probably better for older kids, like seven or eight years old and and older. And the quality isn't so hot for the price. I guess that is to be expected on the first run of anything.

    learn to Play piano

I purchased this to help my Downe's Syndrome brother be able to make music on his own. I can't imagine preschool children using this successfully on their own, but with parental interaction it could be a great tool. The VERY slow speed was Ken's level, and he enjoyed it once he understood to wait for the symbol to reach the staff. This became a doable video game for him, which wasn't what I had in mind, but was fun, no less. The tunes are somewhat lost when you play them that slowly. Also, because of the interaction needed, I didn't feel I could send it with him to the group home where he lives--I'll wait for him to come here to play it with him. I have to say that I enjoyed it a lot--especially trying to perfect my scores on accuracy when playing one of the songs!

Piano Playing and Video Games in One!!!

My 6.5 year old daughter received this piano as an impulsive gift from Santa after she requested a real piano. Unsure of whether or not she truly wanted to learn how to play the piano, I opted to buy something much smaller and more affordable than a baby grand! It has turned into a huge hit. She is learning key placement and understanding notes. We have four cartridges that she uses to mix up the games and songs. When her friends come over, they are immediately drawn to it and ask to play as well. Some of the games even allow for two players which makes it very user friendly for playdates.
