Not water proof on the upper material. Water resistant to a degree and also along the height of the sole and molding. so ok for shallow puddles but will wet out on the top material in rain etc. I think these are as much a hi-top sneaker as they are a 'walking boot' They are comfortable and i think they look good but if I was after water proof I would go for something with a water proof lining. You may like to consider Salomon or lowa (I have a pair of each brand) but those are more expensive. Or look for Columbia boots that are clearly advertised as 'waterproof' Hope that helps.

How do these fit compared to new balance?

Not sure, don’t have New Balance products but they were a true fit to my size
