Which Olive, you ask? 🤔
You will read plenty of complaints here about the color discrepancies on olive-colored hats for a good reason. I made a trip to an outdoor Recreation Equipment store and discovered that the manufacturer produces at least two shades of olive, as seen in the first two photos taken of the same large-size hats. There’s no camera or lighting trickery involved here, folks. Both are labeled olive and one is visibly more olive than the other. But your guess is as good as any other. For your reference, the third and fourth photos are side-by-side comparisons of the Olive (left) and Chocolate (right) colors. While this hat deserves a 5/5 for the construction, packaging, crushability and waterproof quality, the color uncertainty does pose a dilemma. You are best advised to first browse in-store for color and size before making the purchase online. Be sure to invest in a waterproofing spray-on to extend the life of your hat and let others know if this review was helpful! 😀

Perfect
This is exactly what I was looking for. I get compliments all the time on the hat.Surprisingly warm on cool nights, big enough to keep the sun out of your eyes and off your neck, and strong enough to fan a dying campfire or stop a branch from smacking you across the forehead while bushwacking. Throw an owl feather in the band and hit the trail, you'll fit in anywhere you go with this hat.

Love this hat!!
So I saw this brand in an upscale store in Dallas and decided to try and find it on Amazon, it was 1/2 price on Amazon. I ordered a small since I'm a female and it worked out great! Very classic looking. Color is not a grey as it is in the picture. It's more Carmel colored.

GREAT HAT...even as a Civil War Officer's Slouch Hat!
Was concerned with the box being somewhat flat. Open it, and it "snapped" right into shape! Was a size 7 1/4 throughout my 22 years in the Navy. Head bigger now: 7 3/8. The Large fit perfect! I was trying to get a hat similar to Sam Elliott as Gen. Buford in the move, "Gettysburg." Didn't want a "loud" blue or gray colored hat. Got the "Putty"...more earthly and subdued. Took the band off (and feather)...both which were nice...BUT I put a subdued goldish acorn hat cord on it. In any case, I love the hat with the hat cord...and it came very close to what I was looking for WITHOUT paying up to $150. in a Civil War store. I will never look as good as the handsome Sam Elliott, so just compare the hats. The Dude abides...I don't know about you, but I take comfort in that!

Good hat for a great price, with a long tradition.
Over the years, I have owned 4 scala hats, and i can say these are great inexpensive hats. With that said, they are not perfect, with heavy use, the newer ones (as opposed to the one I own that was made some time in the 80s) last me about 2-4 years with near daily use. The felt is good, it doesnt shed or itch like some other wool products i have purchased over the years, and holds its shape fairly well although it will eventually bow gain a curved shape from gravity. I wear my hat pretty much year round, with exception to some hotter summer days, the sweat band does a pretty decent job of protecting the wool, but i have soaked it through before, and i have never seen any excessive shrinkage from the wool.Note: if the hat is wet from rain, or frost from being left out, allow to dry brim down on a flat surface, DO NOT CRUSH WHEN WET!.Pros:inexpensivewarm, but not hot too hotholds shape well over the years.cons:not as good as the ones they made 20+ years ago

from being crushed and still look good - or at least wearable
My new size large DP Scala Classico Crushable Outback arrived yesterday morning - crushed into a box. That's okay, I expected that. But I wanted a hat that would "recover: from being crushed and still look good - or at least wearable. After a few hours, most of the hat looks "okay" (frankly not like the pictures, but okay). However one side of the hat did not "recover" - it still has a severe radius bend toward the front edge of the brim (looks folded over) and the side brim (which should be flowing gently upward) is drooping down. The drooped side is obviously related to the severe bend in the front. The result is an ugly, ugly hat. Now, over 24 hours later, one side of the brim is still mis-shaped; it does not appear to be recovering at all. This "don't even think about crushing" hat is not wearable as-is.The too-small box packaging is obviously Amazon's problem. However, I rate the hat low because this is supposed to be a "crushable" hat that you can stick in your bag or backpack and have it pop right back to shape. This hat is not doing that. And that appears to be a dorfman pacific Scala problem. I guess I'll end-up returning it, because I don't need a hat I won't wear. Return postage down-the-drain.It's a shame. I wanted to like this hat. It was meant to replace an older crushable hat that I lost. In all the years I owned the other brand, it never failed like this.

Love this hat.
I love this hat. It is not only very well made, it is good looking, stylish, and, best of all, completely crushable, and yet bounces back into shape.I will be purchasing another one in a lighter color soon. Scala makes a very, very nice, economical wool felt hat. It is NOT a 100X fur felt Stetson, but you will be hard pressed to find a nicer, or better wearing hat for the price. My other Scala is Black and I have worn it heavily through the fall, winter and early spring seasons for two years. It is still in excellent condition, and I'm pretty hard on hats. Just a quick brushing, maybe an occasional spot cleaning (I often remove the hat with mythumb and fingers in the front creases, which is a "no no", and accumulate a little oil spot from my fingers. This is easily removed with a little careful spot cleaning. Again, I Love this hat.The fit was excellent, but if you are in between sizes order it larger and use the foam inserts under the sweat band to adjust the size for a perfect fit. The Large is a perfect 7 3/8 for me.Before I store the hat in a hard hat case this year, I will clean it and fine tune the shaping with a little steam, and it will be ready for instant wear when I need it again.

Hats off to scala
Great hat! The only truly crushable hat that will actually last. Only niggle is lack of vent holes but I can live with that.

Wonderful
I bought a XXXL hat because I have a 25" head. Based off of other reviews (since the sizing chart wasn't helpful) that seemed to be the appropriate size. It was slightly big but that is nothing to adjust with an elastic. Beautiful hat. Slightly bent but that was due to amazon's packaging and not the item itself. I find it extremely difficult to find hats that fit my head so I was very happy to find this!I will note that it is not a straight/flat brim like the image made it look like, it is curved like a cowboy hat. But since it is felt that can be corrected with steam and patience.
