Gentle Source of Vitamin C
With flu season upon us, my family needed a non-acidic form of vitamin C, and this NOW foods sodium ascorbate powder works great. I stir 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon into a glass of water or juice. It has a slightly salty taste, maybe a little like baking soda, and doesn't cause any stomach upset at all. The bottle is going to last a long time.

I meant to get Calcium Ascorbate, but this works to take sour out of drinks
I bought thinking I was getting Calcium Ascorbate (D'Oh!). They both serve my purpose (as I will describe), but the Calcium Ascorbate will add calcium (good) instead of sodium (neutral).Anyway, my purpose is to take the sour out of fruit drinks, both fresh (lime)and commercial (Tang, lemonade, etc.). Using my chemistry background, I have used other bases with some success; sodium bicarbonate reduces acid, but adds characteristic baking soda flavor; sodium citrate is better, but not readily available, and requires a lot. Sodium or calcium ascorbate (neutralized vitamin C) should reduce acid AND add vitamin C.The sodium ascorbate dissovles instantly, and is very effective at reducing acid flavor. I added 1 tablespoon to an entire container of powdered lemonade mix, and it markedly reduced the acid sourness. The only downside is I detect a very slight hint of sodium flavor reminiscent of baking soda, but only very slight. I have ordered calcium ascorbate, and I expect it will work as well to reduce acid, have less sodium flavor, but may not dissolve as readily. I shall review its performance soon.

dissolves instantly, multi-purpose - I use it mainly topically
Awsome for open cuts. Pour this in the cut and leave the bandaid on for like 2 weeks (don't take it off). Seriously - you'll have no scar. At least that's been my experience and at 47 I otherwise will almost always get a scar from any cut now. I also use this dissolved in water 6:1 then drop it in my eyes when my eyes hurt. Stings very slightly but within 10 minutes my eyes feel awesome and revitalized. People often consume this, saying it's easier on their stomach ... plain old ascorbic acid is no more bothersome to my digestion though - the key is to eat it when you have little to no stomach acid, like first thing in the morning, then don't eat for an hour or more. Whether you use this internally or AA (ascorbic acid) you will have gas and discomfort if you eat too much with or after meals because of the interaction with digestive fluids (and I'm not sure hcl is the only culprit there). Also use for sore or weak skin ... when your skin becomes healthy you can use AA (ascorbic acid) to start building it up and get it super healthy .... there are some vids on youtube to show you how to do that, but you'll want to work up to that with this.
