It clips into those straps neatly, and gives you a perfect all-day adventure pack setup for remote fishing. If I'm fishing a more accessible stream, I can unstrap it from the backpack, and use it stand alone as a medium-sized chest pack.For me, it's the perfect size for the tackle I need on the stream. It comfortably holds one large fly box, a second medium sized fly box, and all of the bits and bobs like leaders and indicators. I use the fishpond accessory to hold 6 spools of tippet externally.If I'm fishing near home on an accessible stream I can unclip it from the Firehole pack and use it with its own suspension strap, which is very comfortable. It's fab used that way.All that said, at $80 it's pricey. If you're using it as part of the system like I am (or want the option to do so in the future), it's worth it. I also have the Fishpond Switchback Pro, belt and pack system. I removed the pack from the belt and attached the shoulder strap to the pack instead of the belt. I wear the belt separately with a rod holder, a bait box, and pair of pliers. I carry the pack with the shoulder strap while hiking to my fishing spot. I fish with the chest pack and belt on, while the other pack sits on the shore with additional gear. This combo works perfectly for my style of river fishing for salmon and steelhead! I love the product and highly recommend it! I will be purchasing more from Fishpond.
