The decodable Black and White Storybooks are specially designed for teachers to send home to help children practise reading the stories they have been learning in school. Each book contains the same story as its corresponding colour Storybook, but includes clear guidance for parents at every step. This support includes parent-friendly notes for the activities at the start of the books to help children to practise the sounds and words they will encounter in the story. There are also notes for the questions to talk about at the end of the story to help parents develop their child''s comprehension.Video support on www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home and www.ruthmiskin.com can be used alongside the books to help parents feel confident pronouncing pure sounds. The books are part of the Read Write Inc. Phonics programme, developed by Ruth Miskin. The programme is designed to create fluent readers, confident speakers and willing writers. It includes Handbooks, Sounds Cards, Word Cards, Storybooks, Non-fiction, Writing books and an Online resource.Read Write Inc. is fully supported by comprehensive professional development from Ruth Miskin Training. Review: I really like the read - I really like the read, write inc series. My son isn't covering this at school but we have these books at home for days he wants to do some reading and he'll usually choose a book from this series. I like that they practise the same "tricky words" (the, she, he you, your, are, my etc) through out the series which means he's now got really good at recognising them. The stories are quite short too which works well for young children. The levels go up quite gradually too - the red books were similar to level 1+ in ORT with the green books more like level 2. However my son found Read, write inc easier than ORT as they spend more time consolidating the tricky words so he was able to pick them up more quickly, It would obviously be nicer to have these books in colour (so that the tricky words are in red and stand out - in the black and white books they are a slightly lighter shade of grey and my son doesn't notice the difference) and in a sturdier form - these are more like pamphlets than actual books but they're still definitely worth the price because of the way the reading scheme is designed. The stories aren't particularly engaging or amusing always but this is the best reading scheme I've come across for actually making reading enjoyable and boosting the child's confidence. Review: Good value - Just received it and tested first few little books from the set... looks like it will be a good addition after completing bellowed boob boxes up to level 3.. wish had a bit more pages and could be a bit smaller size.. but love there is black and white option, so nothing is really distracting a young reader.. my child live it, stories are a bit funny so great for reading resistant early readers!

Brilliant Reads
Teaching my grandson who has learning disabilities to read. The stories follow on and get a a little more challenging as one reads through the series of 10 books The good things about this set is that: 1.the stories are short so he doesnt get bored 2.the stories are engaging 3. The stories are like a โ Properโ story 4. Words are repeated throughout the series from books 1 to 10 -this means he gets plenty of practice and gets fluent in reading the frequency words without hesitation 5 Already brought set 2 and will continue to buy all sets in the series are aHe pays attention when reading

Good
Worth the money. You can start with this set even wirhout ditty books if the child has a good understanding of CVC words. Towards the end of the set, the stories include some words which are not decodable with their set 2 knowledge, (like pizza, wand). Will not buy the next set.
