Bought for someone else who has been using this product…. She has lots of allergies and this was a cleaner formula for the ingredients in a D3 capsule.

I have ordered Carlson Vitamin D3 from other vendors for years but needed it quickly, and I have amazon prime. I ordered two large bottles (360 softgels). The flavor is off, as in the oil tastes a bit rancid. My daughter concurs. I am NOT going to order this through Amazon any more. I love Amazon and purchase many items weekly, but not this one. BTW, I LOVE Carlson Vitamin D3 softgels, but Amazon's provider is not my favorite, for sure. Beware Lot #18944.Update 5/2013: I realized that this order was for the softgels NOT the SOLAR GEMS. The solar gems are the good tasting Vitamin D3 softgels. I mistakenly thought these were the solar gems, so the taste obviously would not be the same. So I am certainly going to continue buying Carlson's from Amazon; I will just make sure to get the solar gems next time. My error!

My GYN recommended this brand many years ago when my vitamin D levels were low. Vitamin D3 helps calcium absorption to promote healthy bones. Once I started taking this medication, my levels went up and later when I thought sunshine would substitute, I was mistaken, and my levels went down. I’ve continued with this brand ever since. Easy to swallow and no after taste. .

Why Carlson? I've used the Carlson brand over the years and always associated it with the highest quality and put my trust in it. Whenever I've seen reports that dig into the vitamin or supplement industry and find issues with this or that brand, I've not seen the Carlson name ever mentioned. When I have had casual conversations with owners of health food stores and asked for recommendations or somehow come to discuss the Carlson brand, it has been in positive, glowing terms. And in my experience over a couple decades, I've had positive experiences with whatever products I've purchased from Carlson.Why 2000 IU? Finding the recommended safe dosage is like asking someone which religion is right for you. Unless you specifically had been tested and know you are deficient, it is difficult to pick a number because of variables like age, types of food you eat, etc. I believe 2000 IU is a safe without overdoing amount. And it is very easy to flip to 4000 IU daily by taking 2 soft-gel pills.I like these pills, they are small enough not to bother me when I take them and they keep very well.
