Dope Remaster, Cool Bonus Footage & Poster
This is the best transfer currently available on blu ray by far.. The colors and resolution are great.. The bonus footage is good with a really cool interview with Roy Horan and exclusive opening sequences from The UK and Japan.. The new Artwork by Kung Fu Obrien sold me on it too but a big disappointment about this particular disc is the missing interview by Hwang Jang Lee about the film which was promised for this release. This is the reason the disc gets only a 4 star. We are paying another $35 for some bonus footage and a small poster.. Lets get that Hwang Jang Lee interview on the next one and make it a complete 5 🌟Overall, If this is your first blu ray of the title it will be a treat. Im gonna chill with this one til I hear of one much better..

Great story, poor video quality
This is an early Jackie Chan movie before he became "Jackie Chan"; in fact the name Jackie Chan only appears on the DVD container and not in the actual film credits. Snake in the Eagles Shadow takes a familiar martial arts movie premise (one style/system against another) and adds enough twists, action and humor to pull the plot up from average to very good.Although the story and acting make this a very good movie, this Beverly Wilshire Filmworks release appears to be nothing more than a VHS to DVD transfer. The video clarity is weak to acceptable and it is a shame that someone has not bought the rights to the original print and made a high quality DVD.If you have seen the complete movie before it is all here for the most part, however the scene with the cat and snake has been greatly truncated probably due to animal cruelty laws. There is just enough of the scene left in to forward the plot but it would be nice to have the complete movie.Lastly, I gave the movie three stars because of the poor video/image quality. If this had been a high quality DVD I would have given this four to five stars because this is one of my favorites.

Very young Jackie
If you like Jackie, you'll love this movie. My husband laugh's @ the movie how corny it is, I know it's corny but I just love Jackie's movies. This movie must had been when he just started acting. Very young Jackie.

Yuen Wo-Ping is becoming one of my favorite directors
What always blows me away is the fight choreography. It's so crisp, fresh, precise, concise, and never leaves a dull moment. This movie is one of the few movies I have that showcases Jackie Chan in ancient China. I'm glad I own it. I'm also glad to see this version as I have heard it's the best version of all the remastered dvds. I'm a happy boy.

Snake in the Eagle's Shadow
The title on this movie is very deceiving. This is also the first movie that Jackie Chan was the star. He was very young and it doesn't really sound like him, but it was funny and the Kung Fu is great. The scenes of the cat fending off the snake was a little out of order, but it didn't distrupt the movie. If you are a Jackie Chan fan then you should see how he got started.

Light hearted kung fu flick!
Snake In The Eagle's Shadow is a light hearted kung fu movie from 1979. The film was released through Seasonal Film Corporation and features Jackie Chan with the director, Yuen Woo-ping. The two would later go onto to release the kung fu classic, Drunken Master alongside Hwang Jang-lee and Yuen Siu-tien, also starring in this film. The story for Snake In The Eagle's Shadow is a fairly typical one. It sees Jackie's orphaned character become a strange old man's pupil and learning a special technique in secret. A few squabbles between rival kung fu schools happen and each one lead up to some nicely choreographed fight scenes. As I said, it's nothing special story wise but the characters are all fun to watch and easy to get behind. As a film, I really enjoyed Snake In The Eagle's Shadow. It's silly and fairly stereotypical but the pacing is really good and the humour on point. The action sequences are very well done, coming across less like a MMA duel and more like a graceful form of dance. It comes together to make a fairly enjoyable product, one that even my wife sat through quite happily (and she falls asleep through everything). The 88 Films release of this movie is very nice to look at it. It has a few minor moments of decolourisation but it's otherwise very clean and extremely sharp. The colours are really strong too, which is great considering how lovely the outfits and scenery is. Everything just pops out of the screen and fans will be very happy to see how well this film has been remastered. The extras for the disc feature multiple audio tracks including the usual Cantonese and Mandarin, as well as the English dub. There's a few commentary tracks but no outtakes. Sadly, the film has been censored in a scene that features a fight between a cat and snake. It's a decision I do not agree with. A film should remain whole, no matter how sensitive your feelings are about such things.I really enjoyed Snake In The Eagle's Shadow (and so did the wife). It's not one of Jackie's best but it's consistently funny and action packed. I can't imagine fans complaining about that standard of film making and should welcome Snake In The Eagle's Shadow into their collection quite happily. Definitely a recommended purchase.

Jackie Chan's breakthrough role
Jackie plays a used and abused dogsbody Chien Fu who works at a small kung fu school. One day he helps out a beggar (Yuen Siu Tien) who's very grateful and the two become close friends. We later find out that the old man is in fact Pak Cheung Tien the last of the remaining snake fist masters the rest have been wiped out by the eagles claw clan headed by Hwang Jang Lee.Chien confides in his new found friend and tells him how he's being abused and how he longs to learn kung fu.Tien takes pity on him and begins to teach him the deadly art of snake fist.As his kung fu improves he grows in confidence in the meantime Tien is being pursued by the snake fist clan as their leader closes in on him Tien and Fu prepare for a final confrontation with Lee.Originally Yuen Woo Ping wanted Fu Sheng for the lead role,he wasn't available so he decided to go with Jackie Chan. This decision was to revolutionize the course of kung fu films and invent a new sub genre, the kung fu comedy of which Chan was to become the undisputed king. This was was also one of the first films that took kung fu choreography to new and exciting heights.Yuen Woo Ping's direction is masterful and the three leads are excellent, the action is superbly constructed and the end fight is incredible. The film was a revelation at the Hong Kong box office and took 2,700,000 H.K dollars in it's first run and catapulted Chan to superstardom.A true classic one not to be missed, thanks for reading and I hope that you enjoy the film.

A fine addition to anybody's DVD collection.
Normally I like a bit of Lee with my kung-fu movies. This is the best Jackie Chan film I ever saw, I've seen a few, although not all of them I must add. The kung-fu is mesmerizing and the best I've seen from Jackie Chan, the choreography is so well done. I caught this on TV one night and just had to buy it to see it again but it sat on my wishlist for a long time before I was happy with the price. I'd also recommend Drunken Master which is more of the same. The main difference seems to be that Drunken Master is actually intended to be a comedy. Snake in the Eagle's Shadow doesn't claim to be a comedy but it's hilarious anyway. The plot has been done a thousand times but we don't watch kung-fu movies for plot. The DVD itself showed up and I was a bit miffed to see it said 'Widescreen Version' on the bottom of the box. I didn't want the widescreen version but it doesn't say widescreen on the disc itself and it doesn't play like widescreen on my TV so I'm happy with it.
