Gifts from Eykis : A Story of Self-Discovery

"Gifts from Eykis" is, without a doubt, THE most important, stirring, provocative, life changing book I've read so far on my own personal journey of self-discovery!!! I cannot recommend this book highly enough - in fact, I agree with one of the other reviewers who said that this should be required reading in every high-school (and I would add college as well) on this planet! If we could do this 1 thing for our young adults - exposing them to these "gifts" - we would soon find a beautifully changed world on our hands, of this there's no doubt in my mind!This book starts off with a young physics major who's graduating from grad school. On graduation day 1 of his professors gives him a folder of calculations - saying that figuring them out will become the most important work of his life. These calculations turn out to be the formula for transporting oneself to another planet - a planet where everything that happens is totally reality-based. For example, when they say they're having an anxiety attack, it is because they acutally have a bacteria called anxiety that does in fact attack, causing the same symptoms we experience here on Earth.While visiting this other planet the young man meets Eykis, and through her he learns how this reality-based universe works & why. When he's unable to explain why we experience the same things on Earth as they do, even though we're not reality-based, she decides to venture back with him to our planet to see for herself. At the conclusion of this visit she shares her reaction to the way we think, talk, & behave & her view that things could be SO MUCH better if we would just change our current ways of thinking."Gifts from Eykis" is a mixture of wisdom, philosophy, humor, spirituality, and down-to-earth common sense. It's written in such a way that it leads you to not only ponder where your current thinking is in error, but also begin to change this "wrong thinking". For me this story continues to stay in my mind, allowing me to realize quickly when I'm off track from where I'd like to be. I think it's SO compelling & lasting because the information is shared by an "outsider" who is looking in - it really makes you think what would an intelligent being from another planet would think about us & our way of life if they were to visit.Overall, I wish EVERYONE on our planet would read "Gifts from Eykis" - I think it's that important!!! It provides a wonderful "road map" for those people who choose to change their lives for the better, creating a life where they are happy, fulfilled, healthy, and able to truly enjoy everything that life has to offer. As I said before, I can't recommend it highly enough!!! This book would also make a great gift for friends, family, and young adults who are graduating from high school or college. These "gifts" are something no one should have to live without!

In Gifts From Eykis, Dr. Wayne Dyer exaggerates many of our human neuroses to the ridiculous. In doing this, Dr. Dyer hits home how "insane" we humans think-forcing us to take a closer look at our everyday thoughts and worries, thinking twice about validating our feelings of insecurity, blaming others for our current situations and being dishonest.Eykis is a newscaster of the planet Uranus who delivers the nightly Anxiety-Attack report. Yes, anxiety really does attack the citizens of Uranus because anxiety is microscopic particles that travel in the air and are inhaled as A's, N's and Z's. If Anxiety attacks are not enough, Uranus also has worry-wares (invisable bacteria), blame-busters and dependency diodes. On this absurd planet, all children at the age of three are given Guilt-prodders which will activate the "rewind" so you can do what you should have done in the past and therefore, correct your error or mistake. If you need or want a complex, don't worry, someone can actually give you one.If you've ever wondered what you would be like if you weren't nuerotic-and let's face it, we're all nuerotic to a certain degree-then, you'll love Gifts from Eykis and the suggestion Dr. Dyer delivers for just about all the problems on our planet. I first read Gifts from Eykis in 1981-2. A decade later my copy left with a friend whom I trusted to return it... Years passed, me scouring shelves for another copy. No luck. In 1996 I wrote directly to Dr. Dyer, asking where I could find a copy to replace my original. An autographed copy soon arrived, his longhand note to me was folded inside and the media mail package bore his personal [home] return address.That [signed] 14-yr-old copy stays with me. Weeks ago [mid-2010] I mentioned how Eykis would respond to an issue and naturally, my colleague wanted to read mine. Uh, no. However, I'd happily check if any Amazon used book sellers might [no expectations] have one - she agreed. To my amazement I found several. And, saw where it's out in paperback. A vintage, hardback copy [library issue] satisfies her needs perfectly. I expect her joy [via Eykis] to ripple giggles. After 28+ yrs. I'm still giggling at all I learned about my view-skews and distortions.Numerous Dr. Dyer works fill my shelves and Gifts from Eykis is THE one I've found most pivotal, spot-on, the most absolute FUN to self-apply. I highly recommend it.

Wayne Dyer has written a wonderful story, that while in novel form is filled with accurate insights into how and why we think, feel and act the way we do based on our perception of "our reality". That much of our unhappiness, worry, fear, doubt and anxiety stems from "incorrect thinking". Not only does Dr. Dyer bring all this to light in a beautifully written fictional story, but offers practical and useful insights to help us develop new and more positive thinking styles and behaviors. Highly recommend this book for all ages, but especially and in particular for teenagers.

It’s timeless and very relevant for today. Dr. Wayne Dyer always held my attention with his truth and wisdom. I miss him.

I bought this book in paperback form when it was first published. Over the years I moved many places and eventually list my original copy. I arrived to see the world through Eykis' eyes and it has done me a world of good. I loved it so much that when I found it again, I bought it for the second time.

It took a while to get into it and I was getting a bit impatient but a few chapters in, I started to chuckle. so I continued reading. haven't finished it yet but love it already enough to give 4 stars. Will be applying principles in my own life
