Finally! I can throw out that lousy Y-shaped peeler
A thousand years ago, my grandmother gave me a peeler like the one she had used for years. It was straight, not Y-shaped, with a sharpened scoop tip for digging out potato eyes, and a bean slicer at the other end. I used that peeler until it was as dull as a spoon. Then I bought a new peeler, the amazing new ergonomic Y-shaped design.I hated the new one. I couldn't find a comfortable way to hold it, and it slowed me down a lot. It also made my wrist hurt. I kept using the old one, but finally just gave up and used a paring knife, which is pretty wasteful.I found this one and figured I'd give it a try. It's exactly what I've wanted. The ceramic blade is nice and sharp, and the tip works well for digging out damaged spots. At first I was cutting way too deeply into whatever I was peeling, but that's because I was used to using a very dull peeler that required a lot of force. I used a lighter touch and that worked perfectly. It's comfortable to hold. I know this because I used it for hours on Thanksgiving. It held up to the abuse and did a great job, even on tough veggies like turnips. One thing I don't like (and this is my fault) is that I have to figure out how to switch the blade around to the left-handed configuration. For most veggies, I peel away from myself, and this came with the blade set up for that kind of use. Some things are easier to peel toward myself (apples, for example), and I'll have to switch the blade around to do that. Naturally, I threw away the instructions.I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who feels more comfortable with a Y-shaped peeler, but for me this is a perfect replacement for my old straight steel peeler.

If You Buy This Peeler, Plan on Wasting A Lot of Vegetables
The media could not be loaded. Contrary to the description, the "Best Vegetable Peeler" I received absolutely gouges vegetables. It takes off about a 3/16" strip from them, no matter what I try. I tried peeling carrots and potatoes, and this peeler was useless for both. I *assume* this was a defective item, or from a bad batch, but don't know because multiple emails to Cestari went unanswered, and their phone number during business hours just rings and rings.I'd stay away.Update: It took quite a few phone calls, but I finally got through to Cestari Kitchen. Susan was very apologetic, and offered to send me both a new peeler and a new ceramic knife they were working on as an apology. She was very gracious on the phone....which is why I feel bad reporting that the new peeler was at best marginally better than the original. It continues to remove a significant portion of the flesh underneath the skin, wasting quite a bit of the vegetable/fruit. When I thought I'd never hear from Cestari, I broke down and shelled out $2.99 for a Farberware peeler from Wal-Mart. It peels vegetables perfectly, removing just enough of the skin. Again, with all the positive reviews, I'd suspect that my peelers were part of a bad batch, but going 0/2 is not inspiring. On the plus side, though I have a nice set of J.A. Henckels Twin Pro S knives, the ceramic knife they sent me cut very nicely. I threw it in the drawer inside it's protective sleeve in case I need to hack up something that I don't want to ruin my nice knives with.Update 2: Reading Cestari's response, it seems they would like to blame user error for the poor quality of their peeler. However, as seen in the video, I don't seem to have any issues peeling vegetables with a $3 Wal-Mart peeler. And while the compensation knife was nice, it doesn't change the fact that this peeler simply does not work well.

Cadillac of Peelers!
I love this peeler! After using $1.99 peelers all my life, at 62 I am now using the Cadillac of peelers!! It's just the best peeler ever--easy on kiwis with no squashing, all the way to hard peels of yams--cuts through 'like buddah'! I think I will buy some for gifts to my friends, all of whom have never used a peeler like this!! I believe it's sharpness allows me to hold the yam in a different way, a SAFER way, because somehow it's design makes it much harder to get your skin anywhere near the sharp blade--so no scrapes!! You don't have to try to grip the object with your fingertips to stay out of the way, so you can hold it in your relaxed hand with no problems! I simply can't say enough about something I never thought I'd get excited about--a peeler! I highly recommend this product, and on a side note, the customer service of this company is outstanding!! Don't hesitate on this purchase--you'll love the Pro Peeler!!

Not easy to use
The blade is not as sharp as my old ceramic peeler. Just seems to clog easily and then slide over the peeling area and not cutting then.

Ever Try Peeling a Peach?
The media could not be loaded. I am a kitchen gadget junkie. If it exists, I probably own it in some form or other. As a result I have gone through numerous vegetable peelers. Most work ok, none are great, some are downright useless. This one is an exception. The blade is amazingly sharp. Because it's ceramic, I don't have to worry about rust. It feels very comfortable and natural to hold. Best of all, it's dishwasher safe! I think those are my two favorite words in all of kitchendom. The one and only issue I ran into was the unidirectional blade. It's not particularly easy to turn the blade around, especially if your hands or the peeler are wet. Since I use a peeler differently depending on the shape of what I'm peeling, this was enough for me to deduct a star. There is a simple enough workaround, however. I bought a second one so I never have to turn the blade around again. The peeler is that good that I thought it was worth it. The other peelers in my utensil drawer will be headed to the transfer station this weekend.
