The Complete SIFT Study Guide: SIFT Practice Tests and Preparation Guide for the SIFT Exam

Do not buy if you want practice with the SIFT
Don't waste your money. There is some decent information/tips for each section, but you only get 1/2 a practice per section. NOT the advertised 2 practice tests. The diagrams in the hidden picture section practically require a magnifying glass to look at, and the Spatial Apperception portion, if you can make out the images, appear to be wrong. If you want nothing more than an overview of each section and some general tips, maybe this is what you want; if you are looking for a chance to actually practice, look elsewhere.

The Complete SIFT Study Guide: A Comprehensive and informative Study Guide
The Complete SIFT Study Guide is a comprehensive and informative study guide meant to master Selection Instrument for Flight Training exam. The problem with SIFT is that in your entire lifetime you are just allowed to sit for SIFT for a couple of times. Hence, a person passionate to qualify for SIFT need to be fully prepared and updated on the exam. The advantage with The Complete SIFT Study Guide is that it is cheaper and yet filled with just meaningful content and information that saves student's time and yet prepares the students in a complete manner. The book focus on each section of the test individually and provides both questions and answers. The author Michael Clark also shares many insights and provide highly meaningful information related to the exam. For example Simple Drawings consist of 100 questions which need to be answered in just 120 seconds. Many students may give little stress to this part of the exam as they get confident by the simplicity of the Simple Drawings. But, Michael states that the students need to train their brain to become accustomed to rapidly processing and selecting visual information.

‘The SIFT is only the first step one on your journey to be ‘Above The Best.’
Author Michael Clark offers no biographical data for use to understand his position in presenting a pre-exam guide, and for most of us the very title of the book is a challenge to cerebration. But for those who fly and are preparing for exams in their chosen field Michael does offer a concise book complete with photographs, tables, diagrams, drawings and resource information that should be of help for those headed in the direction of preparing for the exam.In his Introduction Michael advises us as to the nature of this book (and the meaning of SIFT) and it bears sharing for whose who haven’t a clue: ‘A major hurdle stands in the way of your dream Army Aviation career, the Selection Instrument for Flight Training, commonly known as the SIFT. The SIFT was introduced in 2013 to replace the older AFAST. It consists of seven sections, each testing a different aspect of cognitive ability, which has been shown to correlate with success in later stages of the Army’s Aviation training program. An official Army FAQ about the SIFT states study guides can help with preparation for certain sections. Unfortunately, many of the older study guides for Army Aviation are not fit for their purpose. Older study guides tend to focus on all three Military Aviation Tests. Why waste your time preparing for the Navy’s Aviation Selection Test Battery or the Air Force’s Air Force Officer Qualifying Test? Some study guides were rushed onto the market to coincide with the SIFT’s introduction. Sadly, these feature excess information that’s not actually on the test. This study guide offers nothing but relevant SIFT content, preparation tips and practice tests. Why is it crucial to use the best study guide possible to prepare for the SIFT? Because if you fail the SIFT twice, that’s it. You are no longer authorized to take the test again – ever. The doors to your Army Aviation career slam shut for good. A minimum passing score for the SIFT is 40. The average score? 50. Your first passing score is your permanent score. You cannot afford to risk scraping by with a low passing score because it could later hamper your selection prospects.’Michael offers sections on Simple Drawings (with a practice test and answers) Hidden Figures (again with practice test and answers), Army Aviation Information Test (includes helicopter types aerodynamic forces, scientific principles, flights controls etc + practice test), Spatial Apperception, Reading Comprehension Test, Math Skills Test, and mechanical Comprehension Test.Only those in some arm of the aviation industry or military will be able to judge the advantage of this book. It appears helpful and informative to the novice reader. Grady Harp, April 17

Perfect gift!
I purchased this book as a gift. My friend is training to become a pilot and his dream is to fly for the military. I came across this study guide and I’m so glad I purchased it for him.Not only did he pass his exam, but even thanked me because there were certain questions that he only knew the answers too thanks for the complete SIFT Study Guide. He was explaining to me how detailed some of the pictures are which make it easy to relate and understand the material. If you know anyone interested in becoming a pilot, whether it is for military purposes or not I recommend this book!

Well written - best study guide we came across
Let’s be clear - the Selection Instrument for Flight Training (SIFT) score is your ticket to the next stage of Army Aviation training. You are allowed to take the SIFT test only twice - that’s it. No further chances. So you better get it right as soon as you can. This was a book for my partner, but I was glad to see if I could help in the preparation as much as possible. So this book was more than helpful. Written with clear experience in the subject, it gives more than just simple tips to improve your SIFT score. Written in a clear yet technically accurate fashion, it strikes just the right balance. This books has been very helpful and insightful in this sense and has given us much to think about.

I like it.
I liked this book, I am not a pilot or a pilot student. But I would like to go to aviation school. So I bought this book and I must say that although I am a beginner, it was easy to understand everything that is explained in this book. Everything is explained in didactic way, uses many illustrations to show the information. I think it is interesting to know the operation of the helicopters and how they are piloted. All the functions of the cabin and the controls are explained in this book. I liked it a lot and it helped me to understand many things I did not know.

For the cost probably good value
The complete SIFT Study Guide SIFT Practice Tests and Preparation Guide for the SIFT Exam by Michael Clark has been created with people looking to enter the United States Army Aviation and needing to study for the SIFT tests.Inside the reader finds the book separated into seven sections, each concentrating on a different aspect of cognitive ability that could help get you in better preparation for different areas. This is more up to date than older books and isn't filled with information that wouldn't really be that relevant. There is also practice test questions along with the answers which would be found extremely useful.Coming from the UK I'd imagine that this would probably be useless for a Brit wanting to join the RAF. However not having a clue and not ever likely to sign up I guess this is pretty useful due to the practice tests for US students plus it isn't going to break the bank so definitely worth purchasing even if there are only a few useful parts to it.
