Grimm's Complete Fairy Tales (Leather-bound Classics)

It's a nice enough book, but I'm afraid I don't like the translation. The most glaring example is that, in the story of Rapunzel, all that is said to let Rapunzel's hair down is "Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair." I remember as a child reading a second line "that I may climb the golden stair." I have confirmed on Google search that my memory is correct, which means this translation is deficient. I felt like other stories were very dry, sterile. I think this must be because all the stories have less than full translations.I would appreciate it if someone could recommend another version with better translations of the stories. Waiting and ready to order another.

This is a seriously beautiful book. As a huge book lover, just looking at it and paging through it makes me happy. As you can see from the pictures, it comes with gold dipped pages and a red ribbon book marker. My boyfriend commented that it looks just like a Bible.I attached some photos of the Contents, just in case anyone was wondering what specific stories are included (although I do believe it's supposed to be a complete set--but I don't know Grimm's stories well enough to confirm that).Hope my pics have helped! :)

Cheap book and not the original version. Waste of money. I need to return this!

The book came on time & looks exactly as shown. It has many tales I did t realize existed. I bought this to use while writing a report on the gruesome truth behind the tales we love. These are NOT books for children. As an adult I appreciate the original stories. However, there are still fairly watered down from the true original tales. As I was using this in my works cited I found I had to search for more sources seeing how this book wasn’t true originals.

Bored in quarantine? Boy have I got the review for you. I have been treating my roommate to a daily reading of different fairytales. Each day we pick an accent, and I read with my best impression. So far our favorites are New York Grandmother, Australian Surfer Chick, and My Mom Who Is From The South. The book is lovely, gilded pages, high quality binding, great classic stories. But the accents. That's where it's at man, that's where it's at.

I love the book; my Grandfather used to read these stories to me when I was a child. I am now reading them to my children, (aged 7 and 4). The 7 year old understands them more, but they are great stories. I think they might be a little watered down, or edited, but I can’t be sure because I can’t fully remember the originals. But some stories seem to end abruptly or skip finer details. Just an observation. The book itself is nice, I bought the hardcover, with the gold, and the red spooky trees on the front. It would make a decent addition to anyone’s library...but...I have to say that it is unillustrated, which I was disappointed about. There is only one picture of an owl on the inside cover, and that’s it. I remember looking at depictions of the stories when I was a kid, & I wish they had added even primitive little pictures here and there, throughout the book. The other thing is: the paper is really thin. I wouldn’t give this to a child unless they are very responsible with their books. All in all, I am really happy with the purchase, & I am enjoying sharing these great stories with my girls.

Small Spoiler: I read for pleasure but I don’t study backgrounds and influences. I can’t tell you much about the authors I read but I can tell when I enjoy a story. I read these with my 14 year old niece and we fully expected them to be odd and nothing like Disney. I wouldn’t make a sweeping statement and say they’re not good for young children but if you have a young child who is sensitive or easily frightened or upset, this may not be the best for them. The stories can be a bit dark and apparently Rapunzel and her prince did more than singing on his visits because as my niece likes to tell people “Rapunzel was pregnant with twins!” There’s eye gouging, hot iron shoes pulled from the fire and clamped onto feet and a child that dies young for being “willful”... among other interesting scenarios. All of that said, my niece and I love reading these together before bed. It’s well edited and grammatically put together well. Nothing is perfect but it’s solid. The cover is very lovely and displays well and consider that my niece and I have taken to...er... roughing each other up a bit using the book and it’s corners I can tell you that it is fairly hardy as it has yet to sustain any damage. She wants Arabian night from this same publisher next.

I am SO disappointed with this book. I bought it as a Xmas gift for my 6yo grandson, who loves scary stories. So I tjought" What better than the original Brothers Grimm!" His Dad said he'd read tbe stories to my grandson. When the book arrived it was beautifully bound with gilded page edges and lovely front embossing. But wben I examined the stories inside, I was dismayed to find not a SINGLE illustration to illustrate the old time GRIMM creepiness. 211 stories; zero illustrations. Plus, some of the stories have been edited/shortened/cleaned up, and have lost the strangeness of the original wording, which is important to me. I will not be giving this for Xmas.

I was unsure of this book. but I have to say it is a worthy edition of Grimms's, really pleased with it. The inside boards are of an owl in forest which just makes it all the more magical and inviting to peruse... It is in a deep burgundy colour with these wonderful old man forest trees on the front and back covers and pages gold gilt edged , There are no illustrations in this so would be suitable for the teenager or adult who wish to build their collection, The font is easy to read and of medium size and pages smooth and silky to the touch. These books are what I call value for money the quality in my opinion is well worth what the book has to offer. This book is the Canterbury Classics not to be confused with the equal!ly desirable companion of Barnes and Noble.

Grande maioria que lí é bem direcionada às meninas e alguns - bem menos por enquanto - aos meninos. Histórias excelentes. 201 no total e mais 10 fábulas ao final. Uma criança pode aprender muito com essas histórias. Uma dica ao pais.Fotos: Material bem bacana. Capa dura. Resumo da história dos irmãos Grimm na introdução. Tamanho de letra impressa confortável. Só o ribbon vermelho de marcador tem uma finalização um tanto tosca mas aí é frescura de mais. Muito legal o produto! Recomendo!

I'm highly impressed with having a book filled with Grimm's fairytale's, fantastically dark and not a lot of happy endings! A brilliant read!! Unfortunalety I'm only giving this fours stars due to the book having scratches on its beautiful golden size, bit upsetting to a georgous leather book

I have read several very bad reviews of these leather bound classics. Anything from marks on the gold edging to bad print, but I have two of them now, The Devine Comedy and Grimm’s Fairy Tales, and they are both pretty perfect. Maybe it depends on whether you purchase them from a reputable supplier or not. The print is fine and as it says, these are the original stories. The writing is a little archaic, but that sort of adds to the charm, and is certainly not too difficult. Be prepared for beheaded babies etc. It is undoubtedly a beautiful book and I’m finding it an interesting read.

A beautiful book , golden edge , leather bound such beautiful colours and a real old feel to the book . Perfect for any book lover and a different book to add to your collection ! Scary fairytales for adults not children
