Chinese martial arts explained superbly
This DVD contains essential information for the student of Chinese martial arts. Practitioners of internal arts will benefit early in their studies as they understand the role of breathing in circulation of chi (qi) which will lead to manifestation of power. External arts practitioners may use the understanding in this video so that their health improves as their practice continues. Dr. Yang gives a basic lesson in qigong, followed by material for martial artists which is clear and easy to follow. He explains the concepts of traditional Chinese beliefs using the language of modern science and shows that they are fully relevant today. I am looking forward to taking my Tai Chi (Taiji) practice even further, and will be exploring further YMAA resources for the proper use of the methods to obtain improved circulation.

Excellent addition to any Qigong or Martial Art Library!
Because of my martial art study and instructing, as well as being first introduced to Qigong by my Hapkido instructors in Korea, who also practiced and taught Qigong, I was especially excited to watch "Understanding Qigong DVD 6: Martial Arts Breathing" with Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming.The first part of the program features Dr. Yang discussing what Qi is and its relationship with breathing and how the more Qi you have circulating in the body, the more power you can generate. As the title suggests, this program is about understanding qigong, and goes much further than just illustrating breathing and movements. Dr. Yang does a good job of explaining the relationship between breathing, Qi, power, and endurance. Obviously, if you have studied the first five DVDs of the Understanding Qigong series, you will have a deeper understanding already of the principles and concepts Dr. Yang discusses. In fact, Dr. Yang even recommends you review the previous volumes to help you with the breathing explains to gain more knowledge that he could put in this program. However, this DVD does stand on its own, and you do not have to have watched earlier volumes to gain a lot of insight and knowledge from this program.Dr. Yang actually discusses a variety of breathing exercises. He explains them, and he provides a demonstration. He also discusses what the different types of breathing are for and their progression. These types include: Dan Tian Breathing, Yongquan Breathing, Laogong Breathing, Four Gates Breathing, Fifth Gate Breathing, Fine Gates Breathing, and the final level, Martial Grand Circulation. While Dr. Yang does show these breaths and explains them, but bulk of this program is theory and lecture, just as most of the DVDs in the series. For this reason, I highly recommend them to serious students. The information contained is deep and somewhat difficult to grasp if you are not serious about your studying. The final few minutes of the program show a lit candle and subtitles across the bottom of the screen share ways you can use a candle in your training. The program is approximately 108 minutes long. The DVD has a clear picture, excellent sound, and subtitles across the bottom of the screen as Dr. Yang lectures. The menu system is good for finding the portion of the program you wish to study, and the DVD also contains YMAA extras such as video previews, the YMAA Catalog and credits. French and Spanish subtitles are also included if you wish to watch in one of those languages.I was extremely impressed with the entire 6 DVD series. The information in this final volume assists me with the Dan Jon (Korean for Dan Tian) breathing I practice and teach with my Hapkido training and instructing.Again, the information in this DVD, as well as the other five volumes, is rather complex and delves deep into Qigong theory. The programs are for serious study. The wealth of knowledge that Dr. Yang possesses and shares is simply amazing! I highly recommend them for anyone who wants to better understand Qigong, and I recommend this final volume to those who want to learn how breathing and Qigong practice can assist with their martial art study and training.Reviewed by Alain Burrese, J.D., author of the Lock On Joint Locking Essentials.

Another Masterpiece!
Each of the dvds in the 18 hour, 6-dvd collection "Understanding Qigong" is another masterpiece by Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming! The purpose of this work is to help the student understand Qigong, and each dvd effectively addresses a key aspect of the subject "Qigong" in a way that is truly educational and valuable for the student's understanding and development. All of the information provided in each dvd is so important in developing a foundation upon which to build all future future Chi development and/or Martial Arts training. I would highly recommend that the interested student purchase the entire 6-dvd set for their own benefit. The student will also find that these works are referenced as the source of "further in-depth information" in other of Dr. Yang's amazing works. As in all areas of life, an effective and powerful end product requires an effective and powerful foundation upon which the end product is built. This work by Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming offers the student that foundation.

A good DVD
The theory and insights to Qigong Breathing were very good. However, I felt that the practical side could have been expanded and demonstrated more thoroughly.
