Carter Products MultiRest, Compatible on Mini to Full Size Lathes

From right out of box to set up on my Comet 14DR lathe, took an entire 5 minutes. Product is sturdy.. well built and I absolutely recommend for any Bowl/Vase turner. I had read reviews stating how large this steady rest is.. I had to move my lathe 2" away from wall, not a big deal at all. With as easy as this steady rest is to place on or remove from lathe.. I had nothing to worry about from reading the other reviews. A little costly.. but its not plastic.. this was built to be used and will last a long time!

I bought a cheaper version on here recently that flexed horribly so it added no support and was therefore useless. Decided to bite the bullet and buy this unit. It was a lot more than l really wanted to pay, but it works extremely well, is well made and will, l imagine, last many years so now worth the money in my mind.

I own a Laguna 1836 lathe and it is not to big for my lathe. It adjusts easily and works fine. A little heavy but most steady rests are also heavy. Since I take it on and off the lathe, I would prefer if the lock down bolt was replaced with a hand tighten bolt. When I get a minute I will find one to fit. Overall evaluation, it is very sturdy and holds projects securely while I am removing wood from the inside. I guess it's worth the money but I feel it is a little on the high side. I would buy another if I needed it.

Finally a product that does what the company says it will do. I used this product on my Laguna 18/36 wood lathe right out of the shipping box. Easy to set up and worked perfectly.

after building my own center supports, i decided to just buy a good one and this is definitely it. the carter multirest is very robust and sturdy and extremely versatile. i had it out of the box and supporting a vase with it in less than 10 min. it is a bit expensive, but i think it is well worth the money for what you get...good build quality and easy to adjust and remove.

Gave this steady rest a go and it works very well. I tend to make my hollow forms a bit thinner than most. So I need a little more support to keep them from singing or flying apart. This steady rest allows me to extend the height and reach for my deep hollowing efforts. No more fudging with the smaller unit I have. Was able to put it back to it's original configuration for the simpler projects.

I wasted money on cheaper supports that just didn't do the job. The Carter rest is a little on the pricy side, but if you want a really good lathe rest, buy once, & don't waste money on cheap stuff.
