Q: Can these connect to a modem/router 2-in-1 device or does it have to be a standalone modem?

Vilo can connect to a modem/router combo device.

Q: can the units connect to each other directly using one of the ether ports or only through wifi?

Each Vilo has 3 gigabit ports (2 available on the main Vilo as 1 is taken for connecting to the modem) that allow for Ethernet backhaul. However, units from the same pack are pre-configured to automatically connect with each other wirelessly (sharing the same MeshID). So we don't recommend Ethernet backhaul for wirelessly configured units to avoid performance issues. That said, Vilos from different packages, such as 2 single units bought in 1-packs, can reliably connect via Ethernet backhaul.

Q: How many units can be used for one system??

Vilo can support up to 8 units in a single network.

Q: I've a high speed gaming router who's range doesn't cover my entire house. Can a attach vilo to that router to give the rest of the house Wifi?

You sure can! Vilo can be connected to a "parent" router to amplify Wi-Fi signals.
