Waste of money
I didn't found it interesting enough. I think I wasted my money and time. Well the book quality is good by the way.

Bordering on dangerous advice
I loved the first bits of the book where she talks about birthing positions and breathing techniques but the book VERY quickly, strongly, and consistently becomes anti-medical establishment. Despite some worrying stats. First time mums giving birth at home have twice as high a chance of having negative outcomes but this is glossed over. And time and time again she coaches the audience to question medical advice in favour non-intervention - and not in a neutral or unbiased manner. Example - inductions, she pits “known risks versus supposed benefits”. Ie the risks are real and the benefits are not. Both benefits and risks are real! I dunno…I’m about 2/3 the way through and thinking to junk the book altogether

It should be mandatory for every pregnant woman to read this book!
When I first fell pregnant my thoughts of labour and birth were the same as many; it'll been a painful and scary experience. After being highly recommended this book by a friend, I figured I may as well give it a go. I assumed hypnobirthing was something to do with being hypnotised, but the term is a bit misleading, it has nothing to do with being hypnotised! It's more just the science and psychology around birth. It also points out the common misconceptions around birth, and really puts it into perspective how ill informed so many woman are when it comes to labour.I love that the book prepares you for every birth situation. It gives you the tools you need to make informed decisions, even if your birth plan doesn't go to plan. I love how they encourage birth partner involvement (my husband read it too), because they will play a huge part on the day.The book definitely drills it in that you don't always have to listen to medical advice, and I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing. Doctors/midwives etc do a fantastic job, but it's also important to remember that it is your body at the end of the day and you make the final call.I have a much more positive mindset now and whichever way my labour pans out, I know now that I am as prepared as I'll ever be :)
