Gorgeous Edition of Complete Uncle Remus.
Avoiding Joel Chandler Harris' original heavily accented version, Julius Lester retells the stories in more readable English. Jerry Pinkney's colour & black & white illustrations enhance the hardcover book.

ARRIVED BADLY DAMAGED... I only get 35% refund...
The book itself is beautiful, but it arrived in poor condition (see photo's) In fact it looks like used. I contacted Amazon.co.uk customer service and I get a 35% refund. Not a 100% (which I paid for the book). Is this fair ?

Perfect gift
My Dad remembered these stories and shared them with me. He mentioned them during a conversation and i knew it was a perfect gift as he is aging and no longer leaves the house. When he called to thank me I could tell he was truly happy and the book brought him such joy. He was very impressed with the quality

A very readable version of these great tales.
A very readable version of these great tales. The original is too difficult to read and is definitely politically incorrect. While Lester's version still keeps some black dialect, I have heard whites use worse English and don't think anyone will be offended by it. These stories are meant to be told to kids, not read. I advise story tellers to use this book as a source, then tell the stories in their own words. Modern kids love these stories as much as we did when we were young. Let's not let the next generation miss out on these stories that are a part of our national heritage.
