A quick course on the Roman Empire
A crash course on the Roman Empire that starts from its formation and concludes with its downfall. To the point and a quick read, but also in-depth as it talks about everything from Roman emperors and military tactics to gladiators and food. A must for history buffs. The book is slightly academic but not at all boring and apt for general readers. It’s also perfect for children. Very well written, but could have done with a few photographs for a bit more visual explanation. Excited about reading the next in the series.Note: I received an advance review copy of this book for free. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

It was not worth that price
I bought the book for 1.4k inr. But its size was too small and the printing wasn't that good quality ...The book has very briefly described the Roman History

Great summary of the Roman Empire
Easy to read and understand summary of the Roman Empire. Well written with concise chapters regarding the most important factors that made Roman life and the Empire what it was. Recommended!

Rubbish
Absolutely useless, very basic and full of mistakes. Where is chapter 6? Does the author not know where the comma is placed when writing large numbers? i suspect it was not written by an English speaker and is badly translated! Now looking for a better book on the Roman Empire.

An OK book as an introduction to Roman history but also quite limited
What is attempted with this book is admirable but ultimately it is far too short to do justice to the topic it covers. That said, if you are totally new to Roman history and interested to learn more about an incredibly interesting period of history this is a worthwhile place to start and I would recommend it for that.Having already read Gibbon, Pliny, Tacitus, Suetonius etc I was not expecting a lot from this but was interested to see how it worked as an introduction to a subject which fascinates. Part of me wanted to give it five stars as it has much to be commended but it also falls far too short too often and anyone suggesting four stars is a generous review would not be argued with.Mention of the Caesars is far to short and nothing is noted on the reign of Tiberius and the terror of that time caused by Sejanus and there are other areas which are left out and which played a major part in the empire or its decline - the mess following the legitimisation of Christianity by Constantine when schisms within the newly allowed church began at its birth and were often bloody, notably arguments about the nature of the Trinity.Hopefully this book may serve the purpose of introducing people to this fascinating subject and encourage them to read more and better histories of Rome but if, like me, you have already read other writers on the subject it is a waste of money.
