You've been enrolled in monster orientation on Scare Island, where H.J. Waternoose, the CEO of Monsters, Inc., sends his top monsters to train. All of the best Scarers learned the tricks of the trade on Scare Island. Your job is to unlock all the secrets of Scare Island to find and scare all the Nerves and graduate as a top Scarer. You'll need all of Mike and Sulley's 36 unique scare tactics to accomplish this goal. So get ready to perfect your skills and see if you have what it takes to be a top Scarer.

Fun and humorous, but with no formal learning value, this nicely designed videogame offers hours of challenge for children and adults alike. Players use the ARROW keys to steer a monster (either Mike or Sulley from the Disney movie) around 3D environments, collecting food and energy, smashing nasty toys and jumping over hurdles in order to get to the next level. A little meter on the side of the screen tells you how much "scream power" you have. Once your monster is charged, you can walk up to a kid and scream (this is done by repeatedly pressing a letter key). The faster you press, the louder your monster screams until the kid is "freaked out" (they sort of explode). Game play locations include a desert, a jungle, snowcapped mountains, a city and the Monsters, Inc. Academy. There's a nice mix of humor and challenge, and an excellent tutorial that leads novice players into the game. Games can be saved from day to day. This program serves as an excellent extension of the movie. Parental Note: There is a lot of animated violence here, albeit of the Saturday morning cartoon-style fare. Players make the monsters break robots with a slash, whack trash cans, belly flop on containers to smash them open, and scare the wits out of kids (both boys and girls). There is no gender or ethnic stereotyping, although all the lead characters are male.
