Q: Can you use a higher gauge lets say .009 for E and .012 for B? or are these only for E?

I'm luthier. I design and build custom acoustic guitars. I also repair acoustic and electric guitars and restore historical guitars. Yes, you can use a higher guitar string gauge, to a certain point. You don't want to use huge strings on a guitar not designed for huge strings. With respect to asking if you could use a .009 for E and .012 for B, it depends. An electric guitar uses smaller strings. So, yes to an electric, no for an acoustic. .009 and .012 are too light for acoustic high E and B. General rule of thumb is to use the strings in the capacity for which they've been designed.

I am assuming that you are referring to a steel string acoustic. Even then it depends upon the sound you want and the action you prefer. For the average steel string acoustic with "light gage strings, I would most likely choose a string of .010 in. If that seems to heavy, or the action seems to heavy, you could use a string of .009 in., or if you want a heavier tone (and action) you could try a .011 in string. I know that this did not help you much, but I could suggest that you check the sizes of that high E string on the packages of several reputable string companies, and see what they use. You might get a better idea from that. Best wishes in your effort.

The same set of strings you use on any other electric guitar. You can use extra light, light, medium or the heavy set (1-6 strings) of strings depends on how hard you want to play. If you’re a beginner you may want to start on extra light (.009) high E set of strings.

Best investment for guitarits using 009 gauge

How many times have you put on new strings and by accident broke the high E 009 and had to put on the old one that you threw in the garbage. This solves all those problems plus the strings are as high-quality is the Ernie Ball brand I use.

Por ahora he probado una cuerda durante un momento breve, está claro que no es una Ernie Ball pero hay que tener en cuenta que no es nada fácil encontrar un pack como este. Estaba ya harta de malgastar el dinero y acumular decenas de paquetes con 5 cuerdas sin usar por solo necesitar esta, y este pack lo ha solucionado.

Sadly, you get what you pay for

First two strings I put on both broke where the ball is... unfortunately, poor quality and/or poor quality control. Either way, I will /not/ buy these again
