How do you open the can?

I usually have to use a screw driver to pry it off. I have used a razor knife to cut the plastic ring. Then open the can like a can of paint. BTY This is an excellent product for oil stain removal. BUT make sure that you let it dry COMPLETELY. The last 10 % of the drying does a lot of the pulling of the stain.

Does this work on water stains?

I have been in the stone restoration business for over 45 years. This product is excellent for removing oil stains on marble, granite and other natural stones. If you have a "water stain" on marble, it probably an acid etch ( a chemical reaction with the calcium in the stone) this product will not work. It will need to be polished out and depending on how bad it is maybe diamond ground then polished.

will this take plumbers putty oil stain out of mont blonk quartzite?

I have used this successfully to remove oil based plumbers putty. You need to remove the faucets, re3move the putty, duck tape the bottom of the hole, fill with the poultice and allow it to COMPLETELY DRY ( may take several days). The last 10 % of the drying does the pulling of the stain. Sometimes it needs two applications

Is it normal for there to be a dark ring around the application while drying?

Yes usually. The reason is that the poultice "seeps" into the stone and usually "dries out" after several days. After the stain is removed, you will want to seal it with a good penetrating sealer.
