Easy Setup & Handy Monitoring – Great Value for £10
This was super easy to set up — best to plug it into an empty socket first, get it set up in the app, and then plug in whatever device you’re planning to control. Setup took no time at all.The energy monitoring is actually really handy. I’ve got mine connected to my work/gaming setup, and it’s been interesting to see what power it’s drawing in real time, plus how much it’s used over the past month. Also linked it with the Alexa app, so I can just voice activate it when I need to — works great, no delay or issues.I haven’t used Away Mode with this one, but it’d definitely be useful for holidays. Plug in a lamp and it’ll randomly turn it on and off to make it look like someone’s in — nice little bonus feature. So far, it’s been rock solid — no overheating, no connection drops, and no failures.Absolute bargain at £10.

Best smart plug app
Great so far! The setup with the Tapo iPhone app and each plug has bas been simple, best part about the plug, is the app. The functionality of the app is far better than others I have used, out-of-the-box routines for auto-turning off, schedules ...What I Like:• Schedules: Setting up schedules (can be done at set times or sunrise/sunset). I’ve got my plug set to turn on (sunset) and off automatically at certain times, which has been really useful for my lamps.• Timers: The automatic timer feature is awesome for turning off the plug after a certain amount of time—I have a fan going in the gym, if it is left on by accident it automatically turns off after 2 hours.• Electricity Usage: The app also shows the history of electricity usage, going from a single day to the year. It’s helped me keep track of how much energy my devices are using, and I’ve even cut down on some wasted power.Design:The plug is small and doesn’t take up much space, which is handy as some of my plug sockets are quite low to the ground. There’s also a manual switch on the side if you want to turn it on or off without using your phone—super convenient if your phone isn’t nearby.Alexa Integration:The Tapo app integrates with Alexa, so I can control everything with just my voice. “Alexa turn on the lights”. Obviously need to tell Alexa which sockets are lamps and which are other objects. But the name synchronise between Alexa and Tapo, so only need to do it once in Tapo.Overall, I’m really happy with the Tapo Smart Plug. It’s easy to use, integrates well with other devices, and the energy monitoring is a nice bonus.Rating: 5/5

Tapo P100: Solid Smart Plug for Everyday Home Automation
I’ve been using the Tapo P100 Smart Plug for nearly two years now, and I recently added another one to my setup just this March. Over that time, these smart plugs have proven to be reliable, functional, and excellent value for money. The initial setup is straightforward with the Tapo app, and the integration with Google Assistant and Alexa remains smooth, making voice control simple and convenient. What really stands out over the long term is their consistent performance — they rarely lose connection or fail to respond, even after months of daily use. I use them to control various devices around my home, including fans, lamps, and a lava lamp, and the scheduling feature is a game-changer for automating routines and saving energy. The compact design is great because it doesn’t block adjacent sockets, which is a nice space saver. After two years, the build quality still feels solid with no signs of wear or overheating, and the built-in overload protection adds peace of mind. Occasionally, there’s a slight delay of a second or two when turning devices on or off, but it’s never frustrating or frequent enough to be a problem. The recent purchase of an additional plug confirms that I trust this brand and product enough to expand my smart home setup with it. One thing to note is that the Tapo P100 doesn’t have advanced energy monitoring, so if you want detailed power usage stats, you’ll need to look elsewhere. Overall, for everyday smart home convenience on a budget, these plugs hit the sweet spot — reliable, easy to use, and backed by a simple but effective app. Do note though that a smart plug does NOT turn something on and off that has multiple modes and switches it just turns it off at the same wall/plug so something that uses a remote will not work it has to have a single switch that lets current run through it or not.
