The Autoimmune Fix: How to Stop the Hidden Autoimmune Damage That Keeps You Sick, Fat, and Tired Before It Turns Into Disease

Potentially life-changing book
I read a lot of books on health and nutrition. Most of them have good information. But there are only a few I'd qualify as life-changing, but this one is. (The other one I recommend is Deep Nutrition, by Cate Shanahan.) It is well-written, interesting, and very convincing. While its title says "this is a book about autoimmune conditions for people who have them and want to fix them" -- it's actually a book that speaks to health in general, and to preventing future ailments of all kinds. So if you don't feel you're as healthy as you should be, or if you feel like you might be better off without gluten and dairy, but just don't think you can live without it, or if you have genetic conditions in your family, particularly autoimmune (including the less scary ones Raynaud's, eczema, asthma, etc.), or even if you just have a lot of allergies or susceptibility to colds -- this book is well worth the read.I found it to be very empowering. It shows you that a lot of these things, be it pesky little health issues or scary genetic diseases in the family, could actually be easy to solve or prevent. Because so many ailments (from heart disease, to cancer, to diabetes, to Alzheimers) are a result of chronic inflammation which we could unknowingly be causing little by little over the years because of food choices. The most damaging ones for most people are said to be gluten, dairy, and sugar. Most people hear that last bit and plug their ears. Who would want to give those up? Though you aren't being asked to do that. What O'Bryan recommends is 21 days without them as a starting point so you can find out if you are sensitive to them. Plus a very convincing case for why finding out could make all the difference for your health situation now and in the future.O'Bryan gives just the right amount of information, and explains how things work in a manner that is easy to understand. When I put this book down, I felt like I had just found a key to solving some smaller health concerns I had that were starting to add up. I'm fairly healthy, but I kept thinking, something isn't right. About a week after starting the Whole30 elimination diet to figure out if food sensitivities might be an issue, I heard an interview Sean Croxton did with Tom O'Bryan (highly recommended -- and gives you a sneak peak into the book's contents). I then got the book, and devoured it in a week.Right now I am more optimistic than I've ever been about getting my health from "pretty healthy with issues" to "thriving." I already feel so much better than a did a month ago. I've recommended this book to four people already, and I know one of them has already said she's passed it on to a few people as well, including her mom, who has a serious autoimmune condition.Regardless of your personal situation, I think you will find that a lot of the content in this book will resonate. It will likely validate some things you might be feeling in your gut. Explains them thoroughly and convincingly, and gives you a clear path how to put yourself on a healthier track.I have no doubt that this book will change a lot of lives. It will also save a lot of lives. I couldn't more highly recommend it.

Doctor O’ Bryan got it right!
This is one of the single most important books that I have ever read. In a time when people watch on average 8 hours of tv a day in America, there's a great need for us to hit the "off button" on our remotes and read this book. Doctor O’Bryan will changes the way you eat and live. I’ve read and tried some of everything trying to reduce chronic pain. You see, 36 years ago I was almost killed in a very serious auto accident. I came very close to having my leg amputated. One, only one, surgeon on a entire surgical staff, was able to save my leg. At the time, that doctor was at home, dressed, ready to take his wife out to a banquet. Tuxedo, gown and all! He took off the Tux, rushed to the emergency room that night just for me. I suffered and still suffer from jaw, neck, back, hips, knees, ankles and ankle and foot pain. I experienced about 4-5 whiplashes in one accident. Twenty-eight years later a tow truck traveling about 76 miles per hour struck my wife's car from behind while she was waiting for a traffic light to change, cause further damage to my body. I have migraines each week, along with a myoclonic type movement disorder. It took 1.6 years just to learn how to walk again. I spent 6 years relying on a cane. My hip surgeon at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona, felt that I should have been in a wheelchair unable to walk for 25 years. Since, I was born with ligaments and tendons that are extremely long—I seldom needed a cane or wheelchair. Through the years I’ve taken more prescription drug than I care to know. Bags full of them! One doctors new opinion too another new product, with very little, if any helpful relief. I sometimes wonder when the liver cancer is going to come or kidney failure will accure, because of all the chemical drugs my liver and kidneys have has to endure. The new and improved back brace, the better canes, physical & occupational therapy, new medical/surgical procedures, the rainfall, aching snowfalls ... just simple moisture in the air caused by a slight changes in the barometric pressure which often caused chronic pain, hurting all the way down in my bones. No. Or is it Yes—I’m the new weather man! The spread of osteoarthritis, new ankle braces, newly designed shoe inserts, cervical collars, people who ment well but really cut me too my heart, the hip replacement, the need for another hip replacement, the future need for another hip and ankle replacement, the almost 3,000 mile move across the country just to live in a dryer climate that failed, the thousands upon thousands of dollars wasted. Gone! That new abdominal pain connected to all of those drugs, the diverticulosis and advice to go vegan. The Natruopathic that was on the right track, but had his licenses revoked for helping people injured and suffering just like me. That one doctor was put in jail because of his sincere efforts, only to die from a broken heart after years of walking in his fathers foot prints, along with the death of his wife who had cried out for him while he was locked up. All the sleepless nights, sleepless days, the daytime nightmares, along with the nightmares of life. From missing elementary school recitals, family dinners, concerts, plays, spiritual meetings, assisting others with bible study, going to work each day, all the prayerfull nights, while being judged by others for not praying.... enough. You know what I mean... one judgement after another. Haters! Yes those cold eyes of contemptible judgements—“there’s nothing wrong with him!” Those sleepless night when I had to put my ankles in ice water just to get the swelling down while on what should have been a happy vacation while everyone traveling with me both family and friends slept like babies. All of those extended education classes I had to miss. The jobs I couldn’t even start to consider taking. The missed invite to my cousins wedding that featured the likes of NBA great Joe Dumars, MLB great Derrick Jetter, George Blaha and Greg Kelser, both radio and television play-by-play and the voices of a excellent team called the Detroit Pistons. The fainting spells, bone spurs, nausea, late night argument with my wife because she was young, seldom injured and simply didn’t understand. All the people I trusted over the years, thinking "that's a good friend" only to be disappointed and sometimes robbed. The people I had to pay for doing work around my house thinking "I can do that" but really couldn’t. The torn ligaments, tendons, sciatic nerve and platter tendon pain that one surgeon put it this way “You've suffered 25 years of medical neglect.” From the pain and years of inactivity too...”Sir your now suffering from hypertension and diabetes. My reply, “But I stay way from salt, sweet, fatty foods, along with everyones friend... fried foods!” Now the shock and disbelief! My life has been often about 70% sedentary. My new, as I put it—-Un-Normal!” But, to the medical community it’s “normal” for your personal “normal” or diagnosis is “pre-diabetic” or “chronic pain," you know, that "at your age.... normal." My whole body was now inflamed! Normal! But, looking back, I had 10 years in the medical field. I’ve held them both, yes both, the human heart and human brain, one in each hand. I’ve done CPR over the years at least 100-200 times. Worked in a city that seemed like overnight turned into a battlefield. One gunshot wound, then followed by 75 stab wounds. Blood from the front door too the kitchen! I've personally delivered 14 babies by the time I was 24. One baby boy was named after me. Not! He wasn’t my own. I felt I was in just to much pain to raise a child. I can go on but why? Why? Because from the first time I started reading this book—I thought...well maybe it’s really that same old story—-“your taking in to many foods producing yeast!“ Dr. O’Bryan pointed to something my families pediatrician said to my parents back in 1961, but they both felt they couldn’t do. My pediatrician explained to my parents that they should both keep me away from citrus fruit, milk chocolate, all protein meats (only ycold water fish), all dairy, white flour, and sugar. My parents, who like many, were old fashion. They replied, “there is no way we can do that to him!” “He’s the youngest of four children!” “His older siblings are going to make his life miserable just being themselves... simply eating treats or a good home cooked meal.” My Dad said, “I make ice cream!” He really did! Some of the best I've ever had. But, they both suffered from eczema and food allergies. You know, autoimmune disorders. The one thing that that pediatrician perhaps knew nothing about was—“gluten!” After two weeks of following Doctor O’Bryan’s book, yes only reading the forward, I knew my whole life would change. I’m was only in chapter 1, page 12 and I already felt better because it had the ring of truth. I’m putting that little bite into practice as I read along. Last night I noticed how I’m walking with my spine straight and upright. Today, I received 2 more of his books that I purchased for friends. Believe me, no one paid me for my review. I’m no longer 27 but I’m now an old 62 years. I’m simply elated that I finally found someone who could give me some new, but true... relief. Thanks Dr. O’Bryan! If I ever have a chance to meet you I’d love to pick your brain just a little more beyond your book. Until then I’ll just keep reading. Just think back to all of those TV commercials telling us to "eat wheat bread it's better for you." Now look! All of those people who are now over weight, diabetic, etc. and can't figure out "why this is happening to me." Put the wheat, dariy, all that concentrated salt & sugar down and walk away from it. Put it down! Now Buy The Book!!! G.

the Absolute Best Book for Autoimmune and more
This book is absolutely fill of information that I have not found in any other book on Autoimmune disorders and on other possible illnesses and how to avoid them. It is different mostly in the fact that he often simplifies into ONE SENTENCE what other books have taken a chapter to tell me. I understand the sentence and then I read about the details. for example :Gluten (the family of proteins in wheat) ,dairy, and sugar are the most common triggers that set up the entire mechanism of inflammation and autoimmunity. " I learned so much from this book that I also ordered the cd so I can listen to it while I work. It is a lot of important information to absorb and I find myself looking up different subjects just to remember as I plan my meals and my day. Everyone could benefit from this book. Do not wait until you have a disease before you read this book. Avoid the disease now.The author uses easy to understand explanations that no other book has done in such a down to earth way. Sometimes they make me laugh and I always understand. He says things like"General Gluten steps in to..." or the "body says this is not good for... " Thank you for this great book. My hand pain is so much better after 10 days of following the diet suggestions from Dr o'Bryan that I can actually work again. Thank you!!
