Doesn't work.The thing requires three hex slot screws, two to attach the "blade" assembly to the base, and one to attach the log support to the "blade" assembly. They provided TWO not three.On trying to put the thing together the "blade" assembly legs don't want to fit into the two slots provided for them in the base due to the paint job, so you're never sure it's bedded in properly.It looks like you're supposed to be able to mount the thing onto a larger log, or a piece of wood to enable the splitter to be at a useable height and not on the floor. It has four holes for you to do this, but yet they provide only ONE self tapping screw. Nice job.Mounted the log splitter on a large log so i's off the ground.Placed a log onto the "blade" and hit it with the Estwing wood splitting maul's hammer side bought to complement this log splitter and the log just bounces off the "blade" and doesn't even mark the wood.Ended up using the Estwing Chopping Maul on the same piece of wood and it split first time, using the blade end.Don't buy this it's rubbish, just buy an Estwing chopping maul instead.

I purchased this several years ago and according to my husband and son it is a great product. He has never had a problem with it. Solid. He said you have to hit the wood not the tool. Very happy with this. I was looking to see if they were still available as my son in law wants one now. No regrets with purchase.

I liked this log splitter since it was larger than the others. That is also some of it's drawbacks. I sometimes split logs that are larger in diameter than the 6 or 8 inch ring types. This one has a small curved resting stand for the logs. This can be a little unstable for some and requiring you to hold the split to hit with a hammer potentially hitting your hand.Overall this is a small inconvenience and this works well. The blade is very sharp and has a blade protector to put on while not in use.

It’s finally getting cold enough to burn some wood so I figured I would buy one of these to help splitting. This piece of crap Broke on the first piece of wood. And no I did not hit it with the mallet. Don’t waste your money

Received this splitter for Christmas. Tried to mount it to a large log for stability and height, included screws were barely long enough to get the rough the base, and had no hold on the log. Replaced with good wood screws, and used it occasionally. I cactus 3 months later (March 25th), I tried to further split a small chunk of red oak, and the blade broke into two pieces as seen. Not pleased with a purchase that comes out to a dollar a day to split maybe 50 pieces of fire wood total.

Great product! Splits wood better than swinging an axe. Also splits harder to split pieces, pieces with slanted ends rather don't stand up straight, and semi knotty pieces a lot easier than the traditional method. Makes chopping wood 30-40% more efficient. Wish I had found this years ago.

Using leather gloves and a 3 lb sledge hammer this device makes quick work of splitting pieces of wood up to 4 or 5 inches in diameter. Much safer and easier than using a wedge and larger sledgehammer although I still use this latter method for larger pieces.

Was broken in 2 pieces

I'm a 63 year old woman and don't have the strength to split wood with an ax. I found this easy to use with just a heavy mallet. I prefer this design to the one with an upper circle, because it is more versatile (accommodates bigger logs). It really made quick work of my pile. I fastened it to a large log for stability and that helps. Best to attach to a large.log for the base to keep it stable. Which I don't have but even then it's really great.

I bought this at the end of September, it came in the first week of October. It was great for splitting wood until it wasn't. Tried cutting a regular piece and the blade arm became detached from the base. This should absolutely not happen. I would hope the seller will take this back and send me a new one. The seller reached out to me and sent me a new one. So far, so good! It has helped us greatly with the logs that are just too big for the fireplace!
