what size wires are accepted by the lever connectors?

It appears that the lever style wire connectors will accept up to 10ga wire

Can this relay be used to turn on my 240 volt, 1.5 hp pump in my domestic water well via a float switch in a large water storage tank?

Yes, but if you do not have a source of 24V to go through the float switch into the relays coil you will need to purchase a transformer also. An alternative would be a starter relay with a 120V coil. (You would still need a neutral wire). If you don’t understand this hire an electrician.

Will this work on a 1.5hp pump?

Yes I run a 1.5 HP sprinkler pump with this relay without any issues.
