Many scan tools claim to read certain types of codes. Those "professional" smart phone compatible OBDII wireless plugs claim to pull GM codes of all systems, but they don't. They are not professional tools. This is the most professional generic scan tool I've ever used. As a certified automotive technician I'm used to OEM backed scan tools and this Innova 3100i has some features that even some of those don't have. Some of the best features of this diagnostic tool: Reads Powertrain codes- engine and transmission; Reads Chassis codes- ABS and traction codes; Stores Freeze Frame data (what was happening when the code was set); and many other functions. I verified on multiple domestic and imported vehicles from 2002 and newer but it will work on all OBDII vehicles. If you need to be able to view live engine data, this tool will not do that, but the Innova 3040c will for about $20 more. I highly recommend this product for the professional or the DIY-er.

In the time that I've owned this code scanner, it has helped me countless times in diagnosing vehicle problems in both my own cars as well as other vehicles owned by friends and family. Firstly, this code scanner is easy to use - the display is nice and bright, text is highly visible, and the buttons are properly arranged in a way that makes sense. Secondly, it is able to read ABS codes, which is very useful if you end up having an ABS related problem. Third, the battery life is long lasting, and I don't think I've had to change the batteries yet, which is fantastic, as I've had this tool for years. The OBD cable is nice and long, so you'll have no trouble reaching the OBD port and reading codes while comfortably seated in the driver's seat of the vehicle. If you are a DIY-er or just someone who wants the ability to scan your car when a Check Engine Light pops up, I'd recommend this code scanner as it is a great value for the money and can help you save time and money when it comes to servicing your vehicle.
