Brilliant
Yet again another classic Edgar Rice Burroughs. The film's do not do justice to his wonderful imagination. A great read

The Gods of Mars
Another good read. Written at a time when political correctness was unheard of. The author writes freely and without the constraints of modern concerns. The world he writes about is rich and colourful and full of detail. The story is compelling and I can't wait to read the next book to find out if John Carter and Dejah Thoris are reunited.

John Carter, what a guy!
After watching the film and being nowhere near as disappointed as the reviews told me I'd be, I was only disappointed that there wouldn't be any sequels, so I set about reading the books instead. The first book in the series, upon which the film was based, was very enjoyable and, perhaps understandably, different to the film, but broadly follows the same storyline. This, the second book, picks up at neatly from the first story and delivers another non-stop action romp over the surface of Mars!Really can't help but recommend it, especially with it being free.

Supper
I like this book, first I saw the movie and I wanted to learn what happened next. I am sure I will buy the third book of the series.

Early sci fi
I bought the first three books in Burroughs martian series for the Kindle at the daily deal price and was glad I didn't pay any more for them. I found them very dated, the characters one dimensional and the views and attitudes of John Carter really quite hard to swallow. One would have been enough as they are very repetitive and best read as a curiosity.

A good adventure story
More action from beginning to end than any movie that has been on during this festive period. Its nice to read an action book that keeps the language clean .

old school fun
100 years old and John carter still entertains not quite "PC" at points but Burroughs was from a different era , but read past the lines and enjoy the story top stuff boys own from 6 to 96 no age group would be unsuitable.

The Gods of Mars é sensacional!!!

Stunningly Good for an Older Book
I did not get the first Barsoom book because of the inappropriate cover, so I got this one, and it remains one of my favourites.

John Carter returns to Barsoom
This is the second book in the series. In the first, we found John Carter left Barsoom (Mars to you earthlings) as mysteriously as he arrived. Now he is back, and finds himself in the middle of a continuing adventure. Upon his return to Barsoom, he is able to reconnect with his giant green friend, Tars Tarkas. But, he finds he must go to the "heaven" of Barsoom to find his beautiful princess. We are introduced to some new areas of Barsoom, not the least of which is this area that no one has ever returned from. We are also introduced to new races, including the priests of Barsoom.I found this to be an excellent book, written in as easy to understand English as the first. Of course, if you have not read "A Mistress of Mars", the story may be a little difficult to pick up. This is, of course, a series now, and should be read starting with that first book. This is an excellent book to hide away in for a few hours. You can easily escape this earth and enjoy the adventure. I do not often allow myself to become too wrapped up in any book. This is an exception to that rule. I actually stayed awake at night to finish this book.I have never read this series before, although I read Tarzan several times over the years. I wish I had found these many years ago, because they are such entertaining books. For action, adventure, and pure fantasy, these books by Edgar Rice Burroughs are absolutely wonderful.
