The rug is excellent quality, has a nice soft feel and a nonskid backing. Game pieces are large and round--yellow on one side and black on the other. I played with two sets of grandchildren who were k through second grade and they were happily mastering checkers to try and beat their parents! It rolls up easily to store back in its original box. The rug is good quality, but I'm pretty sure the game pieces will need to be replaced eventually.I'd love to see Melissa & Doug offer chunky wooden chess pieces to use with this set.Update: My dogs ran across this with muddy paws and I learned that it’s machine washable!
