When you first look at book you think this could have been a little thicker book. Once I opened I realized this has way more information and clearer instructions then any carving book I have ever bought. Very informative, pictures are so colorful and clear. I’m hoping Nikki Reese decides to put out more books, I watched her on YouTube international carving she is an awesome person. I wish she was my neighbor I would have loved to sit down with her and talk carving over hot cup of coffee. Thanks Nikki

I've carved for 30 plus years. This is a fun book with lots of projects.

I got this for my grandpa when he got into whittling after a accident. He's made so many of these for me and he's teaching me how to do it. There perfect for gardens or making Christmas ornaments!

Wish it had a little bit more detailed pictures and descriptions

The basic premise of this book is excellent…woodcarving directions for carving gnomes from around the world. The sizes of the gnomes vary, so the expertise needed for carving the gnomes might vary, too. A beginning woodcarver might start with the larger gnomes, where details are a little easier to carve. A more advanced carver might enjoy the more challenging aspects of carving a gnome out of 1” x 1” x 4.5” basswood. For me, this book sparked ideas for carving my own design. The author also has a story for each gnome which adds to the fun. Great photos, excellent and clear instructions and good writing makes this a great book!

On page 5 the author rightly tells you to always wear a protective glove and thumb guard which she is not wearing in the photos. But the big mistake is that the block is shown with no instructions of where to make the saw cuts and only one perspective of the block. I'm new to this and don't want to guess at what I am doing. I would advice her to have a novice try to use the book so she can see these easily repaired failings.

This book is awesome. Nikki Reese does an amazing job at showing all the necessary cuts and goes step by step. Some other books seem to assume you know how to make the cuts or seem to skip steps and assume you can make the cuts. Not with this book!

Love the creative explanations of how to approach what is too often assumed to be a simple carving subject. But to do it right it is harder than it looks. This book helps to accomplish a satisfactory outcome.

This book is so good, I cannot wait to start carving following the instructions! Really easy to follow as well
