Product works as advertised, but...
Excellent product; I use it all the time. Easy to put together, easy to store, I've accidentally dropped the glass several times and have had no issues, so it has been sturdy. The only drawback I can see is that you need perfect lighting conditions to obtain a good, traceable outline. I've tried using in open sunlight, a lighted studio, but the best results I've had is to use a hand-held floodlight so I can obtain the perfect tracing image. I use the floodlight and adjust the lighting as I trace. So far, after tracing over 50 images, I've not had to use any of the filters. I've traced directly onto paper and cotton painting canvas. With the aid of a handheld floodlight, I've been able to use this device in any lighting, dark or bright. I wish the flexible cable was offered in a longer length. Excellent product for the price. I would purchase it again and recommend to someone. Once you get the hang of it, it's a great tool.

A good tool for those trying classical image making techniques.
This is the first time I have bought a camera Lucia and I'm happy to say that the LUCY turned up well packaged with all the working parts needed. The instructions are a bit of a mess, but nobody needs them to be honest. Although the build quality is made from cheap looking plastic that houses the mirrors, after using it a bit I realise that it has to be light weight so it doesn't dip down or bob around. So it's perfect for what it is intended for. The filters work well and improve the different lighting conditions I have tested it in. The clamp is the only part that is a little stiff but over time it should improve. The arm is the best part to be honest - as it quickly lets you adjust the image position without too much hassle. A straight metal arm would not let you clamp onto different surfaces. A Camera Lucia is not an easy tool to use and I can see it being hard to master, but it works well. I look forward to getting the hang of it. Overall the LUCY is a good package for the right price for an artist looking to experiment with the classic ways of image making.

Awkward way to draw.
So this item says it's easy to do. It is easy to assemble. But besides that hard to work with You can barely see the item to trace and hardy see where your pencil tip is to make a accurate copy. So frustrated with this thing . I did better free handed than looking through a lense one eyed . Not worth it at all, I returned it and used a simple card board box and light for a projector. Dont waist money .

They're trying to get subscriptions.
I'm very frustrated with this product. There is a basic manual that comes with it, but it includes a QR code to their website. In order to watch the "detailed instructional videos" referenced in their miniature manual, you have to register for their site. To do so, you must have a valid credit card number. As it was my minor child who intended on using this first, they could not gain access to it. That's a completely crappy business model, in my opinion. If you're going to give the consumer something for free, it shouldn't require a credit card number that will get charged when your free trial expires. I can understand wanting to sell supplemental services, but this just feels really sleazy.

Clearly NOT for advanced artists! WAY OVERRATED!
Obviously, a unique and clever idea. However, EXTREMELY difficult to get into proper position, size, and brightness. This would be fine for tracing simple flower, fish, or a bowl. But does NOT work for anything with detail. Lastly, as the inventor points out many times in his videos "you just need to keep working and adjusting and moving the Lucy until you get it where you want." Well, good luck that...as it is made of mostly plastic and is NOT robust enough for much maneuvering...and it will break!

then you are of course in for a disappointment. However
If you think that buying this will turn you into a Dutch Master, then you are of course in for a disappointment. However, it is sturdily made, easy to use, and has clear instructions. I definitely draw much better illustrations when I use it than when I don't. What it does not do, of course, is make it easy to do photo-realistic art or anything like that. If you have realistic expectations about what it is possible for a device of this sort to do, though, you will be quite happy with this one.

Dry well built
Many people do not truly understand the Camera Lucinda. If you are not an artist this object will remain a mystery. If you’re an artist then you study proportion. You will use tools to determine proportion and perspective. Well, here is where this tool becomes a time saver because you can mark off perspective and proportional guidepost and your art work will look fine. It can help in portrait, but only to get the over the head shape, eye placement, etc. You do not draw with the camera Lucinda! I say this to those that think that a Camera Lucida is a drawing tool. More like an aid for proper placement. This particular model has a few great advantages over other cheaper models. The first is the superb sturdiness of the supporting gooseneck. This baby stays where you put it. It also supplies two filters to gain better contrast. This item would have received 5 stars but for one minor improvement. It is a time waster to change a filter by totally unscrewing a bolt. The filter should should just have a U slot with a wide head bolt and prest, you unscrew bolt partially and insert filter. Despite this minor flaw, the quality is above par and again, the head stays where you put it.
