Literally saved my old cat’s life
I don’t normally write reviews but these supplements have actually saved my cat’s life. She’s 17 years old and over the past few months she was vomiting more and more, losing a lot of weight, and basically not tolerating food. We switched her to senior cat wet food from Science Diet and added these supplements twice a day to her wet food. I’ve tried going down to just one supplement and she starts to vomit a little. Once I go back to 2 supplements she’s fine again. So I know these supplements are working. Thanks to this she’s gained her weight back and has a lot more energy.

Note that it should be given whole on an empty stomach!!!
I'm using this product with my ckd dog. I've read a bunch of reviews that mention that they just dump it into their pets' food. However, the instructions say it should be given whole on an empty stomach. I give it to my dog it at least 1 hour before a meal. My dog takes it easily when hidden whole in a tiny bit of fish. Sort of a pain until you get a routine, but it works well and is worth it.

A tasty supplement for cats with kidney problems
Cats love the flavor, so far I do think it's helping! My cat was starving 24/7 yet skinny. Since taking this supplement he's satisfied and not begging all day! I think he put a few pounds on too.

Review for use in my cat. Much better than Azodyl
I rescued a cat with stage 2 to 3 kidney disease, and I really wish I had known sooner what I know now. When she was first diagnosed in the early stages, my vet did not recommend a kidney probiotic. It was not until her disease progressed that I was told to start one. Looking back, I truly believe starting earlier, along with phosphorus binders, could have helped slow things down. That part still frustrates me. If you have a cat or dog with early stage kidney disease, I strongly suggest talking to your vet about phosphorus binders, looking into products like PORUS 1, and starting a kidney specific probiotic sooner rather than later. I had been using Azodyl before trying AzoVast. Azodyl is expensive, comes with fewer capsules, and the capsules are large. Because you cannot open or sprinkle these probiotics, they have to be eaten whole so they survive the digestive tract. With Azodyl, a lot of the dose was wasted because my foster would barely eat it. I decided to try Doggy Naturals AzoVast after a recommendation from a rescue colleague who is also a human medical doctor and very knowledgeable about kidney health. One of the first things I noticed was the capsule size. The AzoVast capsules are much smaller, which makes a huge difference. My cat is far more compliant with these, and they are much easier to hide in food. I have seen some reviews mentioning capsule issues, but for me the smaller size has been a major improvement over the leading brand. Here is the trick that has worked for me. I do not use pill pockets. I use a tiny amount of something my cat absolutely loves and keep it low phosphorus. Beach Nut chicken or turkey baby food works great because it is just meat and broth, unlike Gerber which uses gums. I will use about a teaspoon, place the capsule on top, and sometimes sprinkle a little powdered freeze dried chicken over it. I switch things up so she does not get bored. Sometimes I also use homemade turkey that I cook, blend, and mash into a baby food texture. She gets the capsule twice a day based on her weight. The bottle comes with 120 capsules, which lasts about two months. With Azodyl, I was spending more money and only getting about 45 days worth. Another big plus is that AzoVast does not require refrigeration, unlike Azodyl. I also appreciate that AzoVast does not contain titanium dioxide. The leading brand does, and there are growing concerns about that ingredient. azovast also has an extra probiotic My only question for the company is about the instruction to give this on an empty stomach. Realistically, giving a pill to a cat on a truly empty stomach is almost impossible. I would love clearer guidance on whether a small amount of food is acceptable, because that is the only way most cats will take it. Overall, I am very happy with AzoVast so far. Smaller capsules, better compliance, easier to use, better value, no refrigeration, and cleaner ingredients make this a solid option for cats or dogs with kidney disease. I only wish I had started a kidney probiotic like this sooner.

CAT ALLERGIC REACTION, BEWARE
My cat had a significant allergic reaction to this powder at a 1/4-1/2 trial dose that required a dose of Benadryl. This powder is expensive and not eligible for a refund. My cat is on a variety of supplements for kidney and urinary issues, and he’s never had a problem with any food/treat/med/supplement he’s ever gotten. This cat was feral in Dubai and lost his eyes to severe infection and FIV and is 13lbs of pure muscle. He’s a strong one and has a strong stomach, never throwing up unless he manages to chew on grass or plants. I was looking for a replacement for some of the ingredients in the old Imuquin powder after they discontinued the packets. This one filled in a few of the gaps, so I gave it a try. I used a half scoop (which is about 1/2-1/4 of a recommended daily dose) in his daily supplement mix just out of habit of easing my pets into things (despite his iron stomach) and I’m glad I did! Thirty minutes later I started to notice he was acting strange - manic almost with zoomies. He’s blind so he’s limited in how he gets out his energy bursts, but this was odd because he also had his normal nightly dose of gabapentin which usually is quite sedating for him. He came onto the bed visibly distressed and frantically grooming himself, which tipped me off to an itchy allergy and was heavily leaning into chest scratches which he normally is a bit more hesitant for. After a quick exam I could tell his throat and neck were noticeably swollen and some of the more visible spots through his white fur were red, mostly near his ears. I’ve dosed dye-free Benadryl before in all my pets so it was easy for me to get him a small >5mg dose. The allergic reaction seemed to die down after that in the span of an hour or so, but it was quite frightening. I compared the ingredients on this product with other supplements, and while some of the vitamin levels are a different (sometimes drastically higher) dosage, he’s had every single thing listed in the active ingredients before or currently. So the allergy was likely caused by the inactive ingredients, I suspect the psyllium husk as it has some reports of rarely causing allergies in cats. The chicken flavor is also possible depending on how it’s derived, but less likely as he’s never had any issue with chicken products.
