One letter. That was all it took for Beckett Gentry to fall for Ella MacKenzie, his buddy Ryan’s sister. Through her letters, Ella spoke to his heart, fueled his dreams, and made his days in Afghanistan bearable. Until Ryan’s life ends and so do the letters. Leaving the military, Beckett heads to Colorado with one destination in mind - Ella. Despite the guilt Beckett feels over his friend’s death, he’s determined to carry out his promise to watch over Ryan’s sister and never tell Ella he’s the one she’d been writing to. At twenty-six, Ella has lost almost everyone she loves - and now one of her precious twins is battling cancer. When Beckett walks into her tiny town - all six-feet-plus of dark, brooding, gorgeous man - Ella barely takes notice. Okay, fine, of course she takes notice. He’s come with the last of Ryan’s letters and the promise that he’d made to watch over her, but he’s insanely tight-lipped about everything else. Now Beckett is everywhere - and the most irritating part is that she likes him, despite his tough-as-nails exterior. Review: A beautifully written, emotional and heart wrenching story that gives you all the feels! - If I could give this book 10 stars, I would. Nothing could prepare me for those final few chapters. Wow, this book hit me everywhere and I felt everything. I'm emotionally wrecked but in the best way, if that's even possible. I bought this book on offer at 99p and it was the best thing I ever did. I probably would've bought it even if it wasn't on offer. The blurb just called out to me as soon as I read it. I can't remember the last time a book made me feel the way I feel now. A little lost, a little broken, and everything in between. I loved this book so much. It was way too sad and emotional in parts but it really made the book what it was. It was heartbreaking at times but I still would have read it. This book will be with me forever, I feel like I'm stuck in this story still, with the amount I cried, it doesn't feel real. Beautifully written and one of the most powerful books I've written in a while. Review: Get the tissues! - The Last Letter completely broke me in the best and worst ways possible. I'm not sure if it was my own experience of having people leave when you have a young child, the longing to be loved and have someone stand beside you through life's battles, or the fact that I've come from failed relationships and could relate to the characters simply being "content" with what they had. Whatever it was, this story hit me deeply. I genuinely struggled to read this book, not because it wasn't good, but because I spent so much of it crying. Rebecca Yarros takes your heart, pulls it out, and stomps all over it. The emotional journey is intense, raw, and unforgettable. The connection between Ella and Beckett is beautiful from the very beginning. Their long-distance friendship is filled with warmth, hope, and all the feelings you could imagine. Watching their relationship grow while they navigate life's ups and downs was both inspiring and heartbreaking. Their love, resilience, and strength carry them through unimaginable challenges, making their story even more powerful. *The Last Letter* is devastatingly beautiful, heart-wrenching, and packed with emotion. It left me in tears more times than I can count, but it was absolutely worth every page. I 100% recommend reading this book—just make sure you have plenty of tissues nearby because you're going to need them.

Our main FMC I swear has been put through every tragedy manageable and she’s strong asf as I don’t know how she even continues in life. If you think this is going to be a fluffy romance book then you’re absolutely wrong. I loved everything about our main characters Ella, Beckett, Colt, Maisie & Havoc. If your going to read this and go in blind please be prepared to have a box of tissues to hand, each time you think everything has calmed down and your emotions are in check please prepare for another smack of tragedy 🥹😩 Rebecca I do not forgive you for what you did towards the end of this book. I am a broken woman. One of the most emotional rides I have been on and that is saying something. It’s so hard to say so much on this book without giving anything away for those who haven’t read it but yep this book is imprinted in my mind.

A truly heartbreaking and addictive read
What a beautiful read, I truly enjoyed this book. I read for two days solid without much break. I wanted to know the outcome of this beautiful family. It was uplifting to have this amazing love story, twisted with grief and regret. You cannot not fall in love with Ella, Beckett, Maisie and Colton, it is unbelievably heartbreaking how the story comes to a conclusion but through it all you still have this lovely story of second chances and unrivalled love. The book is so well written, and you really do feel the emotion throughout. This is the first time I have got to the end of a Rebecca Yarros book and I am sure it's not going to be my last. I definitely will hold onto my loved ones a little tighter after reading this book.

Just buy loads of tissues...seriously!
If you are familiar with military service you know all about the 'The Last Letter'. A letter and a promise to his best friend leads an Army serviceman, Beckett, to a family and a chance at a love that he never thought he deserved. Beckett Gentry is stunned when his Army buddy Ryan MacKenzie hands him a letter from Ryan’s sister, Ella. Having grown up in foster homes after being abandoned by his mother, Beckett is wary of attachments—until he reads Ella’s letter. Ella, a single mother, lives with her twins, Maisie and Colt, at Solitude, the resort she runs in Telluride, Colorado. Their correspondence begins, though Beckett can only identify himself by his call sign, Chaos. After Ryan’s death during a mission, Beckett travels to Telluride at his friend's request, in his last letter. He bonds with the twins and falls deeply in love with Ella. Reluctant to reveal details of Ryan’s death and risk causing her pain, Beckett chooses not to disclose that he is Chaos. When Maisie needs treatment for neuroblastoma, Beckett formally adopts the twins to support Ella and her children. As Beckett and Ella’s romance blossoms, questions are raised about the adoption, forcing Beckett to confront the truth about the letters from Chaos (AKA himself) and Ryan’s death, risking the loss of the family he loves. Beckett and Ella are sympathetic protagonists whose past experiences make them cautious about love. Beckett never knew the security of a stable home life, while Ella’s impulsive marriage to her high school boyfriend ended when he discovered she was pregnant. Their romance unfolds slowly with the letters they exchanged playing a pivotal role in their connection. Rebecca’s writing is crisp and sharp, with poetic passages that avoid being extravagant. While the love story is the book’s focus, the subplot involving Maisie’s illness is equally well-developed, and the bond between Beckett and the twins is heartfelt and sincere. His relationship with Colt already had me from the beginning and I was not prepared to have my heart ripped from my chest with that storyline. I still can't think about it with crying. I hope all the talk of tears and sadness doesn’t deter anyone from reading this story. There's an abundance of hope and laughter in The Last Letter, and while the sad parts are impactful and harsh, so is the happiness. I love that, no matter what challenges they face, neither Beckett nor Ella ever give up. Their shared experience of loss makes their determination even more heartening and reassuring. I can believe why this book made such an impactful mark and it will forever hold a very special place in my heart. It's an absolutely fantastic read—a heartbreaking yet realistic portrayal of romance, military life, and the unexpected trials life throws at you. I can't imagine a world without this story. I loved every minute of it and I am off to as many of them as I can from Rebecca because apparently, I never learn.

Good but disappointing
I had high hopes for this book but sadly my hopes were not quite met. The plot is a good one, good characters, and good sub-plots, but flawed. In amongst the flawsis a great love story, or more accurately several great love stories. Ryan & Becket, Ella and her children, Coltan and Maisie, Becket and the children, and over all of those, Becket and Ella. Each of these put you through the wringer emotionally, on a heartwarming and heartbreaking emotional rollercoaster ride to the very end. I enjoyed this enough to want to read another of this author’s books, in the meantime, give this one a good read. Irritations: Letters: don’t feel real, and irritatingly given out of order which (for me) disrupts and distracts from Ella & Becket’s new & growing relationship. Drama Queen: readers understand and sympathise with Ella for the walls that she has built & why she’s built them. Yet … her reactions to Becket on certain occasions are so dramatically over the top, they are quite honestly unbelievable and immature - like a hormonal teenager. Repetitious Angst: the constant iteration of how everyone leaves her, her trust issues, her unforgiving attitudes to lies, etc are all irritating. Ah well, onward to the next book.

An emotional, engaging must read
I went into this book totally blind, it was one I had agreed to buddy read with some people, the author has been on my radar for a couple of years now...I don't live under a rock! But I just hadn't picked any of her books up yet. I was immediately caught up in this book, I loved the letter exchanges with Ella and Chaos and found myself smiling as I was reading them as they were getting to know each other. In the back of my mind I was trying to prepare myself for the moment when the letters may stop... clearly I didn't prepare myself enough as that had me tearing up. It was such an engaging read that once Beckett came on the scene and started developing a friendship with Ella I was having all the loved up feels and a bit of a crush on Beckett myself. This was such a compelling read it had me feeling a complete range of emotions far deeper than I expected to I smiled, ugly sobbed and literally had a moment where I was crying so hard I couldn't hold the book in my hands. It's one of those books that will forever stay with me and gave me all the feels I had when reading Bridges of Madison County and The Notebook. It was so much more layered than just a romance read, it had trauma, fun moments and devastating moments. It showed the unbreakable bonds people form through shared trauma and loyalties with strong messages about forgiveness, survival and the healing power of unconditional love, family and also found family. This will definitely be one of my most memorable reads of 2026. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ #thelastletter #rebeccayarros #pentransworld #amazon #goodreads #litsy #thestorygraph #tea_sipping_bookworm #fable #bookqueen #bookstagram

Beautiful beautiful story!
Kindle. Though I found a little bit weird to write letters to someone you don’t know, it was a beautiful story. I enjoyed it very much and shed one or two (or a thousand) tears. Read the trigger warnings because as a mother of a little one some parts were heavy and heart-breaking.
