We just moved into an older house and unfortunately the installed thermostat had only 4 wires and no "C" (common) wire needed for the newer color type of thermostats. We discovered that by adding this item we could "create" the C wire required and hooked up a new Honeywell Home RTH9585WF1004 Wi-Fi Smart Color Thermostat. It works awesome. Highly recommend this product.We did try a similar type no-name product but it didn't work with the wifi color Honeywell.

I was a little bit overwhelmed when I read the instructions and wasn't sure I could do it myself. I'm not a HVAC tech or even an electrician. But, I took it slow and read the instructions several times until it made sense (in a woman so... yeah, I am slower but I also read instructions 😅🤣).Then, I went one step at the time and the installation was a breeze.I had a old mechanical thermostat with only 3 wires not even the correct wires my husband connected a 3 wires (red, white and blue) for a 3 wires (red, white and green). Once I realized that he used the blue wire (usually common wire) instead of green, then it was easy. My husband is color blind so he probably thought that he was connecting a green wire to the green connector, while in fact the wire was blue 😅I labeled the wires so now, he will be able to just read the label instead of going by colors. Now I knew why labeling is so important 😅

I have a Honeywell Lyric smart t-stat and it has worked without a C-wire for 5 years but the battery needed constant replacement and I had “short cycle” issues with my furnace. Finally found out that I needed a C-wire all along which, by the way, it clearly stated in the original installation instructions.The instructions for the adapter are very clear and it is simple to install. You just need a small Philips screwdriver.Tested it today and the “short cycle” issue did not appear. It should be many months before I need to replace the battery.

Worked great for 6mo. Just ran 5 wire cable and eliminated this. The thermostat was a Honeywell model as well, installation by professional tested bad by professional.
