I'll preface my remarks by saying that I'm in the persnickety group when it comes to reading lights, as glaucoma has made me sensitive to glare and other aspects of poor lighting. I have been looking for a light that would enable me to read comfortably in bed without success. Further, I don't often write reviews.The lights are thoughfully designed and produce ample, low-glare lighting, especially for such a small, light-weight product. The four-way switch in the light head works well and lets one select white, amber, or a blend of white and amber, plus off, of course. I like the blend for reading and the white for working in poorly lit or dark places, such as under our kitchen sink, where I found myself recently, trying to diagnose a suddenly very low-flow faucet. The smallness of the light, the weighted base, and the nice long, bendible neck let me direct the light just where I needed it, and there were none of the annoying problems one often has, such as glare and having the dang light fall over at just the wrong moment.In fact, last night I found that I could plop the base on my knee and it stayed put while I read a magazine comfortably. There was no glare and the pages were evenly lighted. I even find myself using the light to read in preference to switch on a lamp, especially if the lamp produces glare.Thoughtfulness has been put into many of the design features. The clip has a hinged pad on the end so that the unit can be clipped securely to a book binding or even a somewhat wedge-shaped object, aided by grippy pads on both the base and the clip sides. While the light head is small, it produces an area of even light more than sufficient for iluminating the whole page of a book, even in an otherwise dark room. I think the rectangular shape of the head and the use of multiple LEDs is what produces such an even beam that lights up the page but doesn't light up the rest of the room. As other reviewers have noted, one can read in bed without disturbing one's partner. Our headboard is too thick to clip the light to it, but I either clip it to the book or stand it up on top of the headboard.Charging is simple, but note that one must supply a charger, as none is furnished. I suppose the sellers felt that nearly all of us have extra chargers, and it enabled them to sell the lights for a ridiculous $7.50 each. Because of the LEDs, the charge seems to last a long time. One very small point is that when I tried to use a charger and cable I had lying about, the micro-USB B male connector on the cable was quite loose in the female connector in the base, and I had to use the cable that came with the light. That connector was very snug in the base receptacle. Other reviewers have apparently had the connector break, and the tight fit might be the reason. However, if that happens, I'm sure I can find a spare cable in my menagery that will fit OK.

Really great product!!

I was looking for the perfect book light now that I started reading again, especially at night in a completely dark room after working on a computer all day, and believe I found it in this brand and model. This book light is perfect for my needs; my eyes are light-sensitive, I needed something with adjustable color settings that would be bright enough to see but not so bright it would hurt my eyes, it needed to be light-weight but sturdy, and clamp onto my book without being obtrusive. The light color settings are soft but cast enough light for reading in a completely dark room even on the amber setting and the light is soft, not harsh on each setting. There is a clamp thick enough to attach the light to your book to hold your place without being obtrusive or too weighty for a standard hardcover book, and the thin neck is very flexible so you can move the light source where you want more light in one spot. This light comes in a pack of two which is nice to have if you are an avid reader and want to have one on standby while the other one is charging if you run out of battery or want to gift one to another person, I kept both. Each light comes boxes individually and has its charging cable and will fit a standard USB slot in a wall outlet, computer, or charging block. I read some reviews stating the charging cable does not fit snugly and do not find this to be an issue at all so long as you use the one that comes with the light and are not trying to use your phone cable which may not be the right fit. The first full charge took a few hours per unit. There is a charge indicator light on the unit showing red when it is low and green when charged (useful while charging and while in use). You can also tell while using if you are low on battery since the light starts to dim. Recharging was much faster; I would say approximately an hour or so versus the several-hour initial charge time. Overall, I am very pleased with the product and would recommend a minor change; develop and include a hard snap over the lamp headcover to protect the lens and prevent accidental touches from turning the product on and draining the battery. Great product, already recommended to my niece, another avid reader. Make sure to select the GearLight Brand, others look just like this but are not the same.

These reading lights are great. I had a battery operated one and these are so much better. They have three brightness settings, I always just use the highest. It practically lights up a room. The battery life is very long. I usually use it about an hour a night. When I think about it, I charge it, but that's at least every two to three weeks. It has never died out and I don't notice any less brightness. I'm very happy with this purchase.

trying to hold your phone and read your book in bed, worried that your hot phone will burn you hand and book? tried a flashlight and waking up your spouse with a rude bright light only to be threatened with having you see your own bright light? well then this light is for you. the first light (amber color) is the best for keeping you reading for hours and find out who killed who, where and with what? now my wife can sleep and I can read burning the midnight oil!the second light is a white light which is bright and good for getting all your items in order on your bedside so you can snuggle up with a blanket and that book to enjoy with that light.the third light is a combo of both the amber and white lights making a more natural color light. I don't use that one very often only if I need a strong light to light up my side of the room.great buy and so HAPPY that a friend showed me the light when we were backstage workers for the elementary school play. this was so nice to clip to the clipboard and know what scene to prep for. after she showed me I went out and bought it that night.
