Functionally good, but extremely poor audio quality
I've lived with this unit for around 18 months now so time to give some long term honest feedback.Installation was largely straight forward following various videos on YouTube, although you have to have at least some knowledge of installing this sort of equipment in a car like this - thankfully I have the relevant trim removal kits and other tools required for an installation like this.In terms of actual use, the functionality of the unit is good. As an Apple user I mainly use CarPlay and for the most part it is snappy and responsive, if a little slow to connect initially at each startup in the car. The image quality of the screen is good, but not quite up to the standard of OEM units (understandably). The integration with the standard vehicle features is good - it displays the original vehicle interface just fine and all controls work as they should.Sadly, that's where the good ends. It is clear that the manufacturer has spent all the time and money on developing a unit which interfaces properly with the car, whilst forgetting about the main use of an in car entertainment system - the sound quality. Sadly, the performance from a sound quality standpoint is absolutely woeful. You're putting this unit in to a vehicle with a very capable sound system and effectively crippling that with the extremely poor DAC which is built in to this unit. You'll see mention on the web of the problem being the little USB box which connects to the car's iPod USB input - this simply isn't the case, although that unit could be better. The issue is the DAC in the main unit itself. It compresses the audio to such an extent that it loses all dynamics and sounds very very flat. There are workarounds to this, but all are less than ideal. I found that the Dragonfly Red USB headphone DAC works with Android, so I purchased one (at an extra cost of £169!) and ran this from the USB output of the main unit. This improves sound quality massively, however due to a limitation with external DACs on Android, every time the unit reboots (i.e. car turns off and back on) the audio output goes extremely quiet, meaning you have to go in to the main Android audio controls on the screen and increase the media volume again - this means it's not a "get in and drive" solution as you're sat around waiting for the thing to boot up before you can increase the volume. The other workaround, and the one I'm using now (again, this is with an iPhone) is to force the phone to out put all its audio via bluetooth to the car directly. When CarPlay connects, by default the phone will hand off all sound to the screen (as designed in CarPlay), so this workaround uses an automation built in the Shortcut app which tells the phone when it connects to CarPlay, to route all audio to BT (obviously you have to have the main car head unit set to the BT input for this). This works well from a sound quality perspective, but is still a bit of a hacky workaround. In short, would I recommend this unit, not at all. The dreadful sound quality without using hacks or spending money on other equipment is just not worth the cost. I'll likely pull mine out at some point when I have time and return to standard and find another solution.

Bin eigentlich zufrieden.
