I purchased Perimeter Pro Grade Ultra Comfort Contact System to replace a cheaper system I had installed several months ago from another retailer. The previous system was riddled with problems, interference, sporadic collar activation, constant wire breaks and in general just not safe for my dog. I should have returned it in the beginning. The signs and symptoms started almost immediately. I guess I was just too tired and lazy after spending the weekend installing the original one. I might add the customer service for the cheaper system was non existent.I had full intention of sending the new pro grade system back, should it not perform to my standards. This new system is significantly better and has none of the issues my previous system had. This system works perfectly! I also had several questions about the new system. I made several phone calls to the seller and was surprised that an actual knowledgeable person answered the phone. It's nice to know if any problems pop up, I won't be stuck in e-mail hell while waiting for a response.I ruled out the wireless fence based upon the inflexibility of a circular wireless zone system and its lack of customization. Many of the reviews I saw were extremely bad. I have a smaller dog and did not want such a large collar on him. One of my neighbors had used a wireless dog fence and informed me of the sporadic nature of the fence. His dogs got warned in several areas of the house. With the shape of my yard, a wireless dog fence system would also not work properly based on the fact that you can only make a limited circle containment zone up to 100 feet. The 100 foot zone would have put my dog 20 feet onto my neighbor's property and 20 feet out into the street, unless I limited his play space even more.I considered a professionally installed system but was aghast at the estimates that the professional companies had given me. They ranged in price from $1200 to $2000 dollars! This was not an option and the installation of these fences is not really complex enough to justify such high margins, in my opinion. Even after all the problems I had with my previous containment system, I knew that there must be something better available on the market.Pro Grade Electric Dog Fence system.Upon examining the Pro Grade System, I found the general construction and appearance of durability seemed much better than the previous system I had installed. I always believed you get what you pay for, and in many cases buying the cheaper option is not always the best. You wind up paying more when you find out a product doesn't work the way you expected, you end up just having to buy the more expensive option and are stuck with the inferior previous product. This holds even truer now and even more important with the safety of my dog.The Pro Grade system didn't have any of the problems I experienced with the previous system I had installed. It works! The collar activated precisely at the boundaries with zero sporadic areas in the yard like the other system had. It also worked flawlessly around the areas the fence ran parallel against the cables and utilities. I was very pleased with the accessories that came with the pro grade system: heavy duty perimeter wire, 50 feet of twisted wire, very heavy duty flags, and an extremely beefy surge protector.I have listed the positives in bullet points for ease of reading.*Extremely well made - Actually made in the U.S.A. in comparison to other systems I had looked at that were made in China. This product screams of quality and performance from initial inspection.*Heavy duty installation supplies - 14 Gauge water proof wire is included, also pre twisted heavy wire helped make installation from the transmitter a breeze. I actually had to order a bit more 14 twisted dog fence wire from here, the seller was nice enough to send me a complete 100 foot continuous roll, so I didn't have to make wire connections.*Extra heavy duty dog fence surge protector with a Lifetime warranty*Transmitter has an easy to use digital display system making it easy to adjust the distance your dog has to stay back from the line*Lifetime Limited Warranty on the electronics and 3 years Parts and Labor Warranty.All in all I am definitely happy with this system, it has only been a couple of days since I have installed it, but I can tell it's going to hold up.

Purchased this because it looked like the transmitter on the collar was smaller than other products, and the quality of the perimeter wire was better - both turned out to be true. Installation was easy - I used a drill at one end and a teenage boy at the other to make the twisted wire pair. The instructions indicate you need 12 twists per inch but that seemed excessive to me so I stopped at around 8, and it worked fine. I bought another 500ft of wire from Home Depot of the same gauge (but thinner insulation - the wire that came with the kit was far superior) and additional waterproof splice connectors, running a total of about 750ft around my yard. I also bought some plastic tube and threaded some of the perimeter wire through it to lay across the driveway - had to use an angle grinder to cut a small channel through the driveway and then topped off the channel with premix mortar from a tube, and then black roof sealant to hide the channel as much as possible. Seems to be holding up 6 months later. I dug the wire into my lawn by hand (about 300 ft) and the rest in dirt at the back and side. Easy enough to do (if the ground is soft) with a straight edge shovel and some elbow grease if you don't mind getting your hands dirty. I went down about 2-3 inches which seems ample.We have a female Shiba Inu, notorious for being independent minded and hard to train, and almost as stubborn as my wife. We followed the training guide fairly closely though not religiously, and I have to say it works. Set the shock level at 4 as I did not want to start small and have to work up to a higher shock level in case it didn't work. She had to get zapped a couple of times to understand the new boundary (the dog, not my wife) but after that she responded to the warning beeps. She even responded to the beeps when I was holding the collar and she was not wearing it, so clearly the concept works. She has not tried to cross the boundary even with the temptation of passing dogs, people and squirrels so we feel fairly confident about leaving her in the yard now although we still keep an eye on her periodically when she is outside. Given that we started training when the dog was about 6 months old and she is now just over a year, I think this will continue to work for us and I feel confident in the longevity of the hardware, but time will tell as always. I will post an update if there are any longer term things that arise that might be of interest to other prospective buyers. Thanks to the previous reviewers that helped me in my search and I can add my recommendation.

I purchased another competitors product for <$100 and after installing the wires, the collar failed. They sent me another, and it didn't work at all. Plus the collar was so bulky and seems to be very heavy.Thus I decided to get this and happy with the purchase. The collar is small and the tips has conductive rubber tips so that it is more comfortable on the dog's skin. I tested on me first at level 3 and the shock is not that bad :) just like what you get from your car door sometimes.The reason for getting 4 stars is that no matter what field level its at, it seems the difference of the field at highest and lowest setting is not that different. For example, at setting 10 (which supposed to be 5 feet shocking zone and extra 5 feet for beeping zone) i don't get 10 feet zone from the wire. Maximum i may get is around 4 feet and at highest setting it may go to 6 feet. When I talked to them, they said it may vary from home to home depending on the surrounding. It works, however would have prefer to have a wider zone, so that he would not get shocked immedietly after getting warning beep.Anyway, my dog has long fur and the short pins didn't work for him. Luckily the kit comes with longer pins and they worked well. (you may need to work on the fitting as well and I believe for dogs with long hair, it might be tricky to find the right fit, as you don't want it to be too tight and too loose).Also loves the thicker wires compared to the thin wires that came with the previous cheaper brand. Easier to put it underground knowing it wont break easily.

I did a lot of research before deciding on this particular dog fence. My German Shephard mix is a very smart dog, and she figured out how to push up our chain link fence to get underneath it and visit all the neighbors at our new house. After we'd repaired that fence a couple times, I realized it was time to purchase a better deterrent because the chain link fence was never going to cut it with houdini dog.Reasons I choose this brand:1. Price was competitive.2. Included the thicker wire and lightening protector, rather than nickel-and-diming you for buying those kind of basics.3. Very adjustable - both in distance from the fence and also strength of the correction on the collar.4. It came with twisted wire which was very convenient.I was surprised how easy it was to set up this system. I did run it along the bottom and then the top of a section of chain link fence to separate the front and back yards. This resulted in a slightly wider boundary from the fence than the rest of the yard, which did not bother me because this was the section of fence my dog kept digging under and pushing up. The electronics were easy to set up and the programming was simple to understand.I installed this system about a month ago and my stubborn houdini dog has not escaped the yard since. Also I was impressed the company called and followed up with me to see how the installation went and offer advice if necessary. Great customer service!

This fence was a God send for us. Our 461 feet of 6' picket fence is being replaced and, unfortunately, the Contractor ran into a snag and had to stop everything because he needed a different permit to finish the fence. So, the fence is down over 3/4 of the yard and we have 2 dogs. Our old dog, she12 years old and weighs 8 pounds, is not a problem with or without a fence. However, we just got a German Shepherd "puppy". She's now 6 months old and weighs 55 pounds and she was used to running around in the yard and jumping in the pool when she got hot. Without a fenced yard, we were having to walk her four/six times a day and this Texas heat of 100+ is just too hot. We bought this fence as a temporary measure until the fence permit is approved and the contractor can resume his work. We put it up ourselves (we're no spring chickens either :-) and walked her around a couple of times. She learned very quickly with the beep and only once did she try to run after a deer, while on leash, and she got zapped. It really got her attention. Now she stays away from the flags and runs all over the back yard and in and out of the pool. The collar is really holding up well in and out of the water. This electric fence works so well, after our cedar picket fence is completed, we're going to take it down the electric fence and run it in the front yard! Thank you for such an awesome product.
