High end sound with mid range price
Put these in the rear of my 2015 Aston Martin. The 5 stock Alpine speakers were 4" and tweeters with a single DVC 8" sub. I was missing a ton of lower mid bass. The 4" and tweeter fit in to the stock locations with a little fabrication. Nothing difficult. The 6.5" required cutting new hols and reinforcing the panels, with foam behind. Replaced the front door 4" with Focal 5.25 and tweeters. Difference is amazing in terms of clarity and sound stage is amazing. They do need more power than I am driving. Currently using stock Alpine amp at 100w peak per speaker. Going to double that with after market amps soon.

Defective from factory. Vehicle was getting total refit. When shop went to install they saw the rubber was not attached to the cone on half the speaker. No refund, No exchange. I will try warranty from the factory. Must say not a big fan of Focal.

Focal makes better options for the same price or less...
For starters, I want to state that I am a bit of a Focal fanboy. My last 5 cars have had Focal setups and I've owned many Focal HiFi speakers. I truly know and love the Focal sound.I wanted to upgrade the sound system in my Porsche 981S from the "premium" Bose setup. I was debating between the 3-way Access 165AS3 or the 2-way Flax Evo 165 FXE sitting at the same price point. I never had a 3-way Focal setup before and my Porsche already had a 3-way setup, I decided to take a chance with the Access line. I was also curious if the Chinese made Focal speakers can live up to the French made ones. Overall I made the wrong decision, I will discuss each speaker individually.TN44 Tweeter (5/10) - This is the reason why Focal gets a reputation for being extremely bright (which isn't the case for every other tweeter they make). It has moderate detail and is painfully bright. It's hard to listen to this tweeter for any length of time when new, it does break in and sound decent over time, but new it's brutal. Using the -3dB setting on the crossover isn't enough and you need to set the EQ to lower them even more. At around -6dB they become tolerable. Also the build quality was shotty. The leads to the tweeter snapped off during shipment, and when closer inspection they only soldered 4 strands to the tweeter! This is not the typical QC found with Focal products.Access Midrange (1/10) - I was expecting the inclusion of a dedicated midrange speaker would add some real depth to vocals, but I was wrong. This ended up being worse then the cheap Bose speaker it replaced. The midrange is super directional and has a megaphone effect. Being placed in the door away from the tweeter created this weird echo effect as time alignment was completely off from the dash mounted tweeter. Even when they were aligned, the megaphone effect was present and unless you're in the perfect sweet spot, the sound would get muffled. It had no depth and sounded lifeless, no EQ could save this speaker and paying the premium for it was not worth it in the least.Access Woofer (9/10) - This is the saving grace for the setup. The woofer was all around excellent. I expect Focal woofers to be fast and hit hard, and this delivered more then I expected. It slams extremely hard while still being fast and accurate. I've had plenty of 8" woofers that cannot compete with this 6.5" driver. It's extremely impressive. The only downside is that it breaks up when pushed hard, but hell at that point the tweeters would be killing you.In summary, don't waste your money as Focal has better offerings for the same price or lower. The 2-way Access setup is much cheaper and you wont need to deal with the terrible midrange speaker. The Flax Evo costs the same and comes with an amazing tweeter and a woofer that's faster and doesn't break up (although it doesn't slam nearly as hard as the Access's woofer). Alternatively you can also go with the slightly cheaper Slate Fiber line, which slams hard like the Access but comes with a more basic version of the Flax Evo's tweeter.
