Kept me guessing
Full disclosure: I was provided an ARC by the author in exchange for an honest review. This is the latest entry in the Midnight series by Melinda Leigh. We've met the two main characters, Dr. Louisa Hancock and Conor Sullivan, before but this is their first time up at bat as the main protagonists. Louisa has now relocated from Maine to Philadelphia after being fired from her job as curator at a museum. She is now working as an assistant curator at a museum in Philly. Conor Sullivan, who started to melt her heart in the previous book, just happens to be a Philly native. He is running the family business, a bar/restaurant, and yes, he's still single.A missing museum intern is found murdered; a second intern is now missing. When Conor is possibly the last person to see the second intern before she disappeared, he becomes a suspect. However, Louisa can't believe he is a killer and she's determined to clear his name by helping him investigate the crimes. As usual, Leigh writes believable characters, who are flawed and scarred from their journeys through life. Louisa is smart; it's great to see her work to remove her barriers and open herself up to love. Leigh is equally adept at writing male characters - there are great moments of self-discovery for him as well.Every great mystery writer is able to throw in enough red herrings to keep you guessing, and Leigh doesn't disappoint. I'm not going to spoil it for you, but I had two guesses by the end and I was way off. Great job!Highly recommend.© Angela Risner 2014. It Just Keeps Getting Better
Midnight Betrayal is book number three in Melinda Leigh's Midnight Series. Maintaining the storyline with the Sullivan family, we are now in Philadelphia, where most of the family lives. This story is centered around Conor, the second oldest brother. The museum curator who helped him with his brother, Danny's, case in Maine, Louisa, has started a new job in Philadelphia. Conor is no less intrigued by her than he was before. Young women start disappearing from the museum where Louisa works, and Conor is drawn into the mystery when he is accused of murder related to the case. Conor and Louisa struggle with conflicting feelings for each other, and with urgency to solve the crimes on their own. The plot is the best of the series so far. With complicated, flawed characters, who have multi-dimensional personalities, the storyline takes on a real, but exciting timbre. It's not so easy to see where the story is going, but it all makes sense, once the reader gets there. These are definitely adult books, with some rough language and sexual situations, but it's not gratuitous or overdone. I'm eager to move on to the fourth and final book.

Blindsided!
I did not see THAT twist coming!A chilling, depraved, haunting crime spree and Louisa's honourable knight Conor is targeted by the killer. But not as a victim, no this is much worse...he is set up as the perp and his past plays straight into the police's theories....exactly as planned. How many must die before they finally unravel all the evidence? Evidence that leads them to an impossibility! Or is it?I loved the twists in this, the mystery and misdirection that is weaved perfectly through the investigation. Combine this with the chemistry that Conor and Louisa try to fight as they stumble through their attraction, fight their past ghosts and question their feelings and you have a book you won't want to put down! I have read all four books in the series and for me this is the best one...you do need to read the books in order as they are all linked and previous events are referred to in this book. But the whole series is available on Kindle Unlimited, a true gift!
