Challenging
Somewhat disturbing and challenging common sense. The story is somewhat predictable. A quick read. Clarke was always a favorite, not sure how much of this he wrote.

An interesting if sometimes dark read
I liked the science, but future world not fun. Would have liked a more positive tone. It was still enjoyable

awesome story!
Lewis Crane wants to stop earthquakes from happening due to an earthquake thathappened to him during his childhood in 1994. But there are others who call himmad or wish to stop him permanently. I enjoyed the twist at the end. I didn'texpect it. Must read.

Enjoyable, but not Clarke's best
I definitely understand some of the lukewarm reactions others have had to this book, but really, it wasn't that bad. At best, it is entertaining (not awe-inspiring like many of his other novels). And at its worst, it is a quick read. The science about the earthquakes is fascinating and there is a great deal of politics that seem like believable outcomes given our current debt situation (the Chinese basically own American government in Richter 10). The characters are interesting, though I must say that, with the exception of the main character, their developments takes ridiculous turns. One strong point about Richter 10 that I didn't realize until the very end, was that this is really a book about morality. At the beginning, you see the world through the eyes of a young, vengeful, and ambitious scientist. By the end, you get a great deal of prospective on forgiveness and letting go of the past. So from a literary standpoint, the novel grew with the characters - something that I appreciate.Clarke is one of my favorite authors, and this is no where near the travesty that Rama II was. Not even close. If you decide to read it, you'll probably enjoy it, but if you haven't read Light of Other Days, Trigger, the Space Odyssey books, the Time Odyssey trilogy, or the first Rama, then I'd get to those first.

have read this three times
One of my favorite books that exhibits how we repeat our mistakes through history. Heartfelt, and action packed, smart and fun.

More than just an earthquake book!
It was a great read, read it 30 years ago and it was still good today. Lots of hard science as well as character interaction. Definitely recommend it!

NOT an Arthur C Clark book
Too caught up in racial hatred for me to even finish it. Clark's books are good science and good fiction. This book had neither in my opinion.

Better to stay with his sci fi novels

Inquietante letto adesso
Raccomandato
