Making of a spiritual philosopher
Dr. Wong has written many excellent spiritual, philosophical books. In this autobiography, he shares his extraordinary journey from a below average student to an engineering professor and then to a spiritual philosopher. Prior to writing the spiritual books, he was a professional engineer and a professor in civil engineering, and had achieved worldwide recognitions due to his contributions in hydrology and water resources engineering. Through caring for his mother and relatives, being fired from his job, and his political involvements, he has transformed himself to become a spiritual philosopher. He shares the philosophy “we are all one”, which can benefit everybody and make the world a better place. The book is well organized and written in a fluent style. I would like to rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Q: How does an engineering professor become a spiritual philosopher?
Q: How does an engineering professor become a spiritual philosopher?"How an Engineering Professor Becomes a Spiritual Philosopher" is the matter-of-fact recounting of Dr Tommy Wong's studies, career, life and insights, all in a short, easy-to-read 136 pages. I found it an enjoyable read.Dr Wong wasn't just another engineering professor - he has 56 papers in international academic journals to his name.He wasn't just another spiritual seeker - both his books on Sai Baba are listed on Wikipedia's "Sathya Sai Baba" page. His books are two of only ten listed on the page.Perhaps the secret to making a mark in such different fields is the unrelenting search for truth/Truth, or - as Dr Wong puts it - not "bowing to power and money", "upholding his principles".Whatever the reason / drive, every such journey we come across - in a book, a movie, a story told to us - leaves its mark on us in ways we often don't fully appreciate.A: The opposite of a profound truth may well be another profound truth. A Recipe For A Better World
Professor Tommy Wong offers sage, if perhaps Utopian, advice. I found pg. 123 onward to be particularly interesting. For me, the book builds momentum and ends with a philosophical bang, reminiscent of the philosophy of Plato. While the writing is delivered simplistically, the same style hooks you into it to the end. And even if you don't agree with everything Dr. Wong has to say, you can't help but wish it were so. (Again, the Utopian dream). In my opinion, Dr. Wong even offers a solution to the world's bloody religious wars--that we could all join together in spirituality instead. Is that so hard? Is that too Utopian?Having said all this, I would like to verify Tommy Wong's credentials. In order to do this , Tommy Wong needs to give permission as well as the necessary information to do it, something I'm sure Dr. Wong is aware of. Can Dr. Wong provide such information? The ball is now in his court.

A template for achieving a meaningful, productive life that meets both spiritual and professional needs.
Tommy Wong was a professional engineer who had achieved notable recognition within his field. In his latest book, How an Engineering Professional Becomes a Spiritual Philosopher, he chronicles his personal journey through many challenges and struggles within his profession to a place of higher purpose as a spiritual author where the two worlds—often seen as opposite ends of a spectrum—combine to create a powerful synergy. He highlights situations which enable spiritual growth, such as how do we practice kindness in the face of cruelty, love in the face of hate, calmness in the face of turmoil and peace in the face of conflict, all of which are relevant in today’s world. And he shows us how it is possible to combine both worlds in a way that will make life more meaningful for ourselves and others. In simple, clear prose, he offers the same gentle guidance by example as he has in previous books, bringing in his personal story of how he is able to nurture himself, his family and the world while still making professional contributions. By struggling through periods of unemployment, he shares how he has learned to survive and find meaning in his own life and work. This is a book for our times, when the drive for money and prestige often leads to a sense of emptiness. How many people are in prestigious, well-paying jobs but have no sense of worth or purpose? Spirituality is a basic human need and each one of us finds our own path to greater fulfillment. By his example, Wong has created the template for achieving a meaningful, productive life that meets both spiritual and professional needs.
