Works great
I think the bad reviews are for small drains. That said I’m using this in a 5” basement floor drain that goes straight into the sewer. My washer and utility sink drain into it, and it has no P Trap in the concrete floor. It smelled like the house sewer, stunk up the whole basement and house. Because of the immediate bend in the drain a Sureseal wouldn’t work. I popped this in and it’s been working for weeks without a problem. I’ve been very happy with it. I’ll probably buy a few spares, but it has been holding up to a house of 4 washing clothes, utility sink use, and a 3 Ton AC condensate drain line. It can handle a high flow of water, (like many many many gallons at a time) so I’m not sure what the negative reviews are about it draining slowly are about - probably bad plumbing and not the device itself.

This simply works!
This worked perfectly for me! It's sealed in any smells that would emanate from the drainpipes, and the water drains thru it with ease. I was concerned by some of the other reviews but rolled the dice with the product. I can whole heartedly say I'm glad I did!

THIS SMALL UNIT HAS RESOLVED MY ISSUE VERY SUCCESSFULLY.
I live in an old property in France and the shower drain unit was never fitted with a " P " trap so the smell from the wastewas foul. I came across this product on Amazon.fr , from the States, reading the reviews it seemed that this might well be the answer to my problem. It arrived and looked well made, fitting was very simple. I have to say I am extremely pleased with the result since fitting it. IF you are experiencing this issue then I strongly suggest this is most likely to be the answer for you as well. Delivery was very really quite quick.Alan

Overpriced
Probably the most overpriced item I’ve ever bought. Won’t get the chance to see if it works or not because it broke while I was pressing it into the pvc pipe. It’s a tiny piece of plastic wrapped with rubber. If it cost $5 I would have thought that’s a little high but if it works it’ll be worth it.

Effective Drain Cover for Preventing Gas Backing Up
I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly the product arrived, and it was packaged with great care. The item actually fits my drain perfectly, which is a relief. I bought it because of issues with gas backing up, and it effectively prevents any unpleasant odors from permeating the bathroom or the entire house. The quality of the item is evident, it's well-made and sturdy. However, I deducted one star due to the pricing, but overall, I would highly recommend this product to others.

No more stink!
New to us townhouse has a stinky basement shower drain. Every time one of the 3 toilets from anywhere in the house flush, stinky fumes would come out of the drain. My investigation tells me a working p trap was installed and there was no evidence of clog or blockage in the system. Stink is most probably the result of an inefficient vent system in the drains. More costly solution was to install another vent = $$$.I stumbled upon this product while researching solutions for my problem. Installation took less than 5 mins. Pop the drain, make sure drain pipe is clean, drop this device into the pipe and push to make sure the rubber “fins” provide a good seal around this device and the inside wall of the pipe. Ran the shower full blast for around 5 mins to see wether water pools on the floor which may indicate draining is slowed down. Surprisely, no change. So I filled up a bucket of water about half way and dumped everything into the shower floor while shower was still running. Water initially pooled in the floor but was gone in a few seconds. Yehey! There’s no significant slowing of water draining! Before I installed this device, I read reviews that say draining slowed down to the point of water pooling on the floor while taking a shower. That was my biggest concern. Almost everybody was saying this product kept the stink out but had that issue of slow draining. For those having problems witn slow drain with this product, try pushing the device deeper into the drain. That will help build more water pressure between this device and the water on the floor. Also, it may help using a shower head that is one of those water efficient kind rated for 1.5 gallons per minute.Very happy to get rid of that annoying stink!

Great for the money
It was cheap, and it stops the sewer gas odors. This is perfect for rental properties or those where you cannot modify or change the existing plumbing/septic WC vent design to eliminate the problem. I had the same issue as a few where it did not move adequate water for a shower drain. If this is you:1. Drill (8ea) evenly spaced pilot holes-horizontally with a 3/32 drill bit along the lower recess portion where it says, "made in china."2. Redrill those same holes with a 5/32 drill bit, and drill out the hole in the center piece from the bottom.3. Deburr and remove shavings.4. Do NOT drill your fingers.5. Install as directed. If this does not help, anything else you install either will not make the odor go away or drain sufficiently.

Doesn't drain very well
Seemed to work at first. We installed it in a floor drain. However, when water got into the drain this little valve never opened like it is supposed to
