U-POL Acid #8 Black Etch Primer 450Ml Aerosol

After a third party recommendation, I have been using this product to restore a number of outdoor light fixtures as well as a collection of other metallic objects. After scrubbing the objects and removing excess quantities of rust, I apply the spray to, allegedly, promote protection of the metallic surface as well as boost paint adhesion. While I’m merely a DIY-er, with little more than average understanding, the aerosol spray performs perfectly. The final paint coats adhere soundly and, to my own surprise each and every time, lead to a pristine-looking object. So, without the technical background and arguments, this product works for me.

I bought my can in Sept of 2015- now summer of 2019 I’ve pulled it off the shelf and started to use it. It had been through all sorts of weather including freezing and hot summers. I’m impressed enough by its use and quality to come back and buy another. I had zero issues with the tip, so I can’t comment on what all the complaints are about.

This stuff is nothing short of amazing Everyone likes to complain about the tips have used almost a hundred cans of this and never had an issue with one of them this stuff works wonderful

Great etching primer sprays nice an great coverage for medum size areas where you dont want to use acids . Paint adhears good an no problems .

The only complaint I have with this primer is the spray was weak and messy. Had to recoat several times and clean drips from the work piece. Have not topcoated yet so, we will see.

I use this to prep bare metal for paint or bedliner (UPOL Raptor). This stuff works great. Beware it is very strong including odor. Use proper ventilation and mask. One can allows me to prep one of our trailers, after a light scuff.

Good primer if you end up with bare spots when you are prep'ing for the liner. Not sure the difference between this and regular primer from the auto parts store.

What a super discovery! An auto supply shop recommended it. Apparently car customizers use it to prepare and prime metal for painting. It etches the surface (particularly important for galvanized metal, which will not take paint well) and leaves a light satiny gray surface ideal as an undercoat. Surprisingly all auto supply shops do not carry it, so Amazon is an easy source, saving running around town. Oh, be absolutely sure you wear a proper breathing apparatus, gloves, and safety glasses or you will etch your tissues as well. This is powerful stuff.
