Optoma HD142X 1080p 3000 Lumens 3D DLP Home Theater Projector

I purchased the Optoma HD142X after a ton of research and time spent looking at projectors online. It has the best quality picture and feature set for the price range I was looking for. It really does have an amazing picture. I am currently using it with a 120" motorized screen. One of the reasons I went with this model was because of the higher brightness rating. I have it in my living room which has blinds over the windows, but theres still a decent amount of ambient light in the room in the middle of the afternoon. This projector is bright enough that it looks just as good as my LCD during the day.Another nice feature of this projector is the 12v trigger port. Alot of projectors dont include this often overlooked feature. It allows you to automate your electric screen. By wiring the 12v trigger to the control box of my screen, I now have my screen automatically lowered when I turn on the projector. When I turn it off, the screen automatically goes back up.Overall, Im very satisfied with the overall quality of this projector. It was very easy to tune and set up. The vast array of options and features make this one of the best, if not, the best budget home theatre projector with a full 1080p native resolution.UPDATE: So Ive had this projector for a few months now and can say Im still just as happy as the day I got it. I use it daily for watching TV and occasional video games. Everyone who comes over cant believe how great it looks! Ive found that I really appreciate the backlit remote at night as it helps to find the keys. I also expected that it might start to get louder over time as dust built up inside, but it still runs quiet as ever. I sit right in front of it and dont even notice the sound even after watching tv nearly all day sometimes.

I received my Optoma HD142X today and decided to give it a test run on a pedestal before I have it permanently mounted on the ceiling. Upon powering on the unit having had the hdmi cable from my reciever (focusing the unit with the wheel above the lens) I was greeted with the logo screen and then I started the setup. The initial setup was easy. I chose my language and my current position of my projector and that was enough to get me started. I turned on my source (PS4) and compared the picture projected on a white wall with the picture on my 55" Sony Bravia 4K. They were very similar in color and with it being 3pm and ample lighting coming in through the windows I was very pleased to be able to see the image clearly. I then went into the main menu and turned the lamp setting to cinema and eco modes and was pleasantly surprised to seen that I still had no trouble making out the images with the ambient lighting coming in the windows. I adjusted the keystone using the remote and also adjusted the projector footings until my image was level and again these were very easy steps to accomplish. I decided to try out the 3D so I switched over to my PS3 which plays 3D better than the PS4 (audio sync is way better). I popped in Zootopia 3Dbluray and the projector determined that the source was 3D automatically and asked if I wanted to switch to 3D and gave me the options of DLPLink, VESA or 2D to 3D of which I chose DLP-Link and then proceeded to sync my glasses (not included). I started up the movie took a seat and felt like I was in a theater watching the movie all over again. The colors and images popped off of the wall and it was still daytime. I made myself stop watching after about 30 mins and decided that I would do a real test once the sun went down. Before I turned off the projector I took out a measuring tape and measured the disgonal which was about 97-98". It does get pretty warm which is to be expected but the fan was doing a wonderful job of and I could barely hear it when it was on and I definately did not hear it while the movie was playing. I came back and started up a different movie. This time I reminded myself to take a picture, though the pictures dont do the projector justice you have to see it for yourself! I would definately recommend it to anyone looking for a projector!

I'M STUNNED! TALK ABOUT BREATHING NEW LIFE INTO BLUERAY MOVIES & PLAYSTATION 4 GAMES. THIS PROJECTOR IS JUST AMAZING IN EVERY SENSE OF THE WORD. NO ONLINE VIDEOS OR PICTURES WOULD DO IT JUSTICE. IT'S SOMETHING YOU HAVE TO EXPERIENCE FOR YOURSELF.I'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO HAVE MY OWN HOME THEATER WHERE I CAN JUST KICK BACK & TRULY ENJOY MOVIES THE WAY THEY WERE MEANT TO BE SEEN. THIS PRODUCT EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS IN EVERY WAY IMAGINABLE. AS A FIRST TIME BUYER, I BELIEVE I NAILED IT ON THE FIRST SHOT!I PRETTY MUCH TESTED THE PROJECTOR WITH THE DEFAULT SETTINGS. PLACED IT ON A SMALL MEAL TABLE ABOUT 6.5 FEET FROM THE WALL & IT DISPLAYED A 57 INCH ( DIAGONAL ) SCREEN ON MY PLAIN LIGHT COLOR BEDROOM WALL.FAMILY CAME INTO THE ROOM WHILE I WAS TESTING BLUERAY MOVIES VIA THE PLAYSTATION 4 & THEY HAD TO DO A DOUBLE TAKE ON THE QUALITY OF THE PROJECTION DISPLAYED ON MY WALL. IT LITERALLY RIVALS HIGH END HD 1080 P TELEVISIONS THAT COST THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS.MY BEDROOM IS ABOUT 8 FT WIDE BY 12 FT LONG & 9.5 FT HIGH. IF I PROJECT FROM THE WIDE POSITION ACROSS TO THE WALL I GET ABOUT A MAX OF 67 INCH DISPLAY. IF I PROJECT LENGTH WISE & PLACE THE PROJECTOR ABOUT 11.5 FT DISTANCE FROM THE WALL I'M ABLE TO FILL A 100" DIAGONAL SCREEN ACROSS THE ROOM.I THOUGHT IT WAS AMAZING AT 67 INCHES WHEN I FIRST TESTED IT. HOWEVER, WHEN I TRIED IT FROM 11.5 FEET AWAY WITH A BLUERAY DISC MY JAW DROPPED! IT'S LITERALLY LIKE BEING AT A MOVIE THEATER ENJOYING A PRIVATE SCREENING OR SOMETHING. IT'S ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. THE IMAGE IS SHARP, THE COLORS ARE VIBRANT & THE ENTIRE SETUP JUST DRAWS YOU IN.ALL THE GAMES I TRIED ON THE PS4 LOOKED FANTASTIC. NO BLURRY DISTORTED DISPLAY OF ANY KIND. CRISP & CLEAR AFTER A QUICK FOCAL ADJUSTMENT. ALL THE GAMES FELT LIKE NEW AGAIN. THEY LOOKED THE WAY THE DEVELOPERS INTENDED THEM TO BE EXPERIENCED. IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT GETTING AN ARCADE MACHINE, FORGET IT. GET THIS INSTEAD!IF YOU HAVE THE SPACE TO PROJECT ANYTHING OVER 55" I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND GIVING THIS PROJECTOR A SHOT. IF YOU HAVE NEVER WATCHED A HIGH DEFINITION MOVIE OR PLAYED HD VIDEO GAMES ON A DISPLAY AT OR ABOVE 55" AT HOME YOU MUST TRY IT. I'M TELLING YOU, IT'S A MUCH RICHER EXPERIENCE.WHEN I PURCHASE THE DISPLAY SCREEN I'M SURE IT WILL BE EVEN MORE STUNNING. FOR NOW THE 67" DISPLAY FROM 7 FT AWAY WILL KEEP ME ENTERTAINED IN THE MEANTIME.I RECENTLY PURCHASED THE OPTOMA VESA 3D EMITTER & TWO PAIRS OF THE OPTOMA RF 3D GLASSES. WORKS FLAWLESS AFTER CHANGING THE 3D OPTION TO UTILIZE VESA TECHNOLOGY WITHIN THE OPTOMA HD142X PROJECTOR MENU. PS4 GAMES LIKE TRINE & ZEN PINBALL ARE EXCELLENT GAMES TO SHOWCASE THE 3D GLASSES. IT LOOKS AMAZING!ALTHOUGH PS4 HAS ABOUT 15 GAMES WHICH SUPPORT 3D GLASSES YOU CAN EASILY THROW ON A 3D BLUERAY MOVIE OR LOAD UP HD 4K SBS ( SIDE BY SIDE ) VIDEOS FROM THE PS4 YOUTUBE APPLICATION TO GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR INVESTMENT. YOUTUBE HAS TONS OF FREE 3D SBS DEMOS & MANY CLIPS AVAILABLE FOR FREE. THE PROJECTOR SUPPORTS SIDE BY SIDE, TOP / BOTTOM & AUTO MODE IF YOU USE THE OPTOMA VESA EMITTER WITH THE RF 3D GLASSES.I HAVEN'T THOROUGHLY TESTED MY COMPUTER YET BUT I'M SURE IT OFFERS ALOT MORE CONTENT THAN THE PS4. WITH ACCESS TO TONS OF VIDEO STREAMING SITES & GAMING SERVICES LIKE STEAM YOU WILL HAVE PLENTY OF CONTENT TO EXPLORE. THE PC HAS A DVI-D VIDEO CARD CONNECTOR SO I USED A DVI TO HDMI CABLE TO CONNECT IT TO THE PROJECTOR BRIEFLY WHICH WORKED FLAWLESS.I DID NOT MOUNT MY PROJECTOR TO THE CEILING BUT MAY DO SO IN THE FUTURE. FOR NOW I LET IT SIT ON A SMALL PORTABLE MEAL TABLE WHICH ALLOWS ME TO PROJECT THE IMAGE TO MY BEDROOM WALL.HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PROJECTOR TO GAMERS & ANYONE INTERESTED IN AN AMAZING HOME THEATER EXPERIENCE. IT'S WORTH IT!TIPSGET A GRAY SCREEN & NOT A WHITE DISPLAY. THE GRAY SCREEN WORKS BETTER IN AMBIENT LIGHT & ABSORBS THE BLACK COLORS NICELY DISPLAYING A MORE DETAILED PICTURE BASED ON MY RESEARCH. HOWEVER, IT'S MOST EFFECTIVE IF YOU HAVE SIDE WINDOWS LEAKING LIGHT IN.UPDATE: I'M LEARNING AS I GO SO I CAME BACK TO PROVIDE SOME ADDITIONAL INFO.IF YOU INTEND TO WATCH ALOT OF 3D MOVIES WITH YOUR PROJECTOR YOU MAY WANT TO GO WITH A WHITE SCREEN INSTEAD WITH AT LEAST A 1.2+ GAIN. MAYBE EVEN A 1.4 GAIN TO ENSURE ENOUGH REFLECTIVITY TO HANDLE THE 3D IMAGE. IF YOU ALREADY HAVE A 1.1 PROJECTOR SCREEN ADJUST YOUR PROJECTORS BRIGHTNESS & CONTRAST SETTINGS WHILE YOU ARE WATCHING SOME 3D CONTENT TO IMPROVE THE OUTPUT.RELECTIVE SCREENS ARE BETTER SUITED FOR A SMALLER VIEWING AUDIENCE WHILE LOWER GAIN 1.1 SCREENS DISTRIBUTE THE LIGHT MORE EVENLY ACROSS THE SCREEN ALLOWING A LARGER AUDIENCE TO GET A SIMILAR VIEWING EXPERIENCE FROM A WIDER SEATING ANGEL. ( A GRAY SCREEN MAY NOT BE SUITABLE FOR 3D MOVIE WATCHING DUE TO IT'S LOWER SCREEN GAIN )IF YOU ARE GOING TO GET A SCREEN MAKE SURE IT'S TENSIONED BASED IN ORDER TO AVOID THE LINES & IMPERFECTIONS YOU WILL MOST LIKELY EXPERIENCE WITH THE AVERAGE PROJECTOR DISPLAY SCREENS.NEVER ENCLOSE THE PROJECTOR WITHIN AN ENTERTAINMENT CENTER, BOOK SHELF OR A POORLY OXYGENATED AREA WHILE IN OPERATION. YOU WANT TO KEEP THE PROJECTOR AS COOL AS POSSIBLE TO AVOID A SHORT LAMP LIFE.DON'T MOUNT THE PROJECTOR ON THE CEILING AT AN ANGLE! THIS PROJECTOR MUST BE MOUNTED HORIZONTALLY OR YOU MAY CAUSE DAMAGE & VOID THE WARRANTY.SETTING THE PROJECTOR TO ECO MODE SLIGHTLY REDUCES THE BRIGHTNESS BUT HAS NO REAL IMPACT ON OVERALL EXPERIENCE. IT WILL HELP EXTEND THE LAMPS LIFE SPAN.TO TURN OFF THE PROJECTOR WITH THE REMOTE YOU MUST TAP THE OFF BUTTON TWICE FOR IT TO SHUTDOWN THE PROJECTOR AS STATED WITHIN THE PROVIDED INSTRUCTIONS.
