Quite hot
This embrocation is about 7.5 out of 10 on the heat scale. What I like most about it is that it goes on like a lotion rather than a heavy Vaseline type product. It is not as water repellent as the heavier types, but it is very easy to wash off. of course, the heat factor is completely up to the individual.

Nice warmth, but somewhat unpredictable
I suffer from Raynauds which causes my toes to lose circulation and turn white when exposed to cold. I was hoping that embrocation would help my situation. DZ Nuts does sometimes take the edge off, sometimes not. I have not figured out how to get the feeling of warmth all the time on my toes. I decided to try DZ Nuts on my legs for some cold weather activities. That is where I really got the bang for my bucks. DZ Nuts provides a very nice feeling of warmth and made being out in the freezing cold bearable. However, when I returned back indoors, my legs were burning. When I drove home, I could not turn on the heater in my car or my legs would start burning. So, I guess the bottom line is that this product can work very well, sometimes too well, or sometimes not at all depending on how and where it is used. Some other tips:- when applying, wear rubber gloves. That will keep residual cream from staying on your hands and keep you frm the unpleasantness of getting the cream in your eyes or other sensitive places.- before taking a shower, try to wipe off as much of the cream as possible with wet wipes or other alcohol based wipes. Diaper wipes do not work.- do not get into a hot tub after using embrocation.

heat without the grease
This cream has a slight cinnamon smell - it goes on without being greasy, quickly rubbing into the skinIf used as an after exercise rub to stimulate muscle recovery the heat can immediately be felt and carried through for hours (I put it on my legs after a ride and was still feeling it when I went to bed)One main issue is that if you put this on using your hands, even if you wash them afterwards, you have to be very careful where else you touch your body as the heat will be felt (example: I touched near my mouth after washing my hands and the area I touched burned for an hour - same near my eye)Most of the time I use it post ride but I used it once pre ride on a chilly night and it provided a great warm feeling until I cycled enough to warm up.I also bought the lower heat version and have found it to be just as good a product

Tenacious heat
I tried this more or less on whim. I'll ride up to 10-12 hours per week, right down into the twenties. Properly dressed/layered, etc., cold and inclement weather has never bothered me much, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to give embrocation a try. This stuff definitely gets hot--almost stingingly so--and the warming sensation is retained well after a cold ride. So I guess it works, or at least feels like it does. But it's too much of a nuisance for me, insofar as it is difficult to thoroughly wash off of one's hands. It is almost impossible, therefore, to avoid inadvertent application to other areas of body, on which one certainly does not want to apply it. I would guess that any truly therapeutic/prophylactic value may dubious, or perhaps a placebo effect, anyway. I've been riding in cold, inclement weather for decades without using a single thing smeared on my legs. Didn't think twice about it and will not in the future. It sounds like it works for some, but I won't be using this, or any similar product again.

High Heat & A Bit Greasy
Having previously used Perskindol's warming liniment cream for years, which, I would say is also "high heat", you don't need a lot to start feeling the effects. After dressing in my kit, I will I apply approximately a quarter-sized amount for each leg, from ankle to mid-thigh, wait several minutes then go out. Personally, if the temperature is below 50-F, I will wear knee-warmers or knickers. Above 50-F, DZ Nuts.
