Splinter Guard Replacement Strip (118 inch)

Works great

The first issue is that it's so tightly wound, it was difficult to get it to lay flat. The adhesive is not strong enough to keep it stuck to the guide. It peels itself off and has now lost its zero thanks to moving around. The original strips were extremely difficult to remove, these are poor replacements.

I bought this to replace the splinter guard on my Milwaukee track saw. It is made from quality materials and works well for my use case. I did have some issues with it staying in place on the bottom of my guide plate. I am not sure if it is because I didn't clean it well enough with alcohol before installing or if the heat played a role but it has lifted a couple times on the end of the guide plate.. Probably install error on my part, ordered another to try again.

I have used the powertec 55 inch rails, and the makita 39 inch rails. The Makita stips became useless very quickly. I initially purchased more makita splinter tape, which was equally disappointing. The tape on my powertec rails was doing quite well, so I thought I would try their splinter tape. It appears to be of much higher quality, easily applied, and holds up very well. This is your best choice for splinter tape in my opinion. I have not tried the festool version yet, but the cost of this is also an incentive.

Until they sell these uncoiled or with the adhesive on the inside of the coil, they’re never going to stick. I’m on my 4th go around with replacing these on my powertec dewalt track. The first time I did these, I did it by the book (removed all adhesive without chemicals, clamped for 48 hours afterward- even used a J-roller). I unclamped them and cut to zero-clearance… they held for about 2 weeks before the edges started peeling/curling. So then I bought these again, this time I made sure the surface was absolutely virgin. Rough cut the splinter guards and then laid them out on the ground with weights on them to remove some of the coiling. I used a heat gun, super sharp razor with light pressure and mineral spirits to get the track absolutely spotless (package says not to use stuff like mineral spirits, but so long as you wipe it dry and give it at least several hours to dry you should be fine). I let it sit for 1 full week to let the splinter guards settle and the mineral spirits to fully dry. Applied the guard… used a rolller and clamped up for a solid 5 days. This time I got 2 weeks out of them before they (again) started curling off the track. I peeled them off, removed all the adhesive from the track and the guards and reversed the guard so that the coil was facing down (to prevent the edge curls), used some cheap double-sided tape I use for woodworking… so far it seemed to do the trick. But it’s only been a day. There won’t be a next time- I’ll spend $40 on the Festool splinter guards

Not the same strip that came on my original Powertec track. The original is a softer, more malleable material that was easy to work with. This one is much more rigid and kept the shape of being coiled up. It peels up on the ends and now I'm in search of another replacement.

Installed this week on a Makita guide rail w/ a roller. The original strips are a flexible rubber, whereas these are rigid plastic that wants to coil back on itself. Adhesive tape lacks durability. Both ends of strip immediately began pulling away before use. Have to keep pressing down before each use. Poor performance. When I finally gave up and pulled the strip off to replace it, it easily left the adhesive tape clinging to the guide rail. The tape took *no kidding* 30 minutes to scrape away with generous amounts of GooGone solvent. As a pro carpenter, would NOT recommend.

I know many have complained about adhesive problems but that seems to be the issue with almost all the splinter guards you can buy, as well as the splinter guards that come with tracks. Here is my solution and why I give this product 5 stars...I dont find this stuff to be all the great but I like how stiff it is and I install it with this product (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007Y7CRBW?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1) in the 3/4 inch variety. This combo works great and, for me, sticks like there is no tomorrow. Buy the cheapest splinter guard, use the 3M tape, and you should be good to go.

This item will not be repurchased. Doesn’t stay stuck to the adhesive on either end. Poor quality, guess I should have tried better quality.
