Outstanding add-on for your Dewalt 788
I first saw this when I had a different scroll saw, now that I have a Dewalt 788 I decided to go for it. Before I ordered I compared the Lifter to another type, and decided I didn't want plastic. I had cut a piece of wood to slide under the arm to hold it up, it worked, but I kept losing it. I know, drill a hole and put a piece of cord through it and attach it to something, but I just had to try the Lifter. The unit showed up a week sooner than I had expected, kudos for that, Outstanding service. I read through the instructions which included pictures showing you exactly what to do, looked simple enough. I chose to go with installation type "B", drilling a hole in the cover rather than cutting out a half inch square in the corner, glad I did, I think it looks a lot more like a professional install. Everything went together as the instructions indicated, and the unit fit perfectly on the saw. Raise the arm with one hand and it catches and stays up, you can release it with one hand allowing you to guide the blade with the other. The quality and workmanship is excellent, and I was able to quiet the vibration by placing a small piece of wood behind the bolt that holds the hook. Would I recommend this to any Dewalt 788 owner? In a heartbeat. Well worth the money I spent, and I'm glad that I did.

Every DeWalt Scroll Saw Needs This Lifter
The main reason I replaced my old Porter-Cable scroll saw with a new DeWalt scroll saw was because the DeWalt’s upper arm lifts up and out of the way, making it much easier for placing the blade through a starter hole in an inside cut. But DeWalt made a huge mistake by not including a simple latch to keep the arm locked in the up position. This device easily solves the problem. It is simple to install and just works perfectly! Worth every penny!

Very good product
Bought a new 788 DeWalt scroll saw and saw this product on U Tube. I ordered it and installed it on my saw. Very useful to change blades or move material for cutting. Was easy to install with instructions included however ; when I installed I forgot to put back existing nuts on new bolts into saw. I then put washers and new nuts to complete installation. Very easy just look at diagram with instructions. Works well and would recommend this product. Now have to practice using saw for projects. Paul P.S. you have to cut a little plastic out for holding bolt, no problem.

Perfect Fit
The Lifter Arm arrived in Hawaii in three days which is GREAT and surprising! The instructions were very detailed with mounting options well laid out, I drilled a hole in the plastic shroud instead of cutting it and everything fit perfectly. Installation took me about 20 minutes mostly because I wasn't organized enough to have all the 'recommended' trox and metric Allen wrenches ready but if I can install this, anyone can!! The one thing that I'm concerned about is the description and videos on the lifter arm show it with metal parts but my arm arrived with a plastic or Plexiglas type floating hook latch and not a metal hook latch. Only time will tell if this is going to be an issue but at least it should more accurately describe this very important component as it is the hook that hold s up the scroll saw armHaving said that, the lifter works perfectly and is one of the few accessories that I've purchased for any of my woodworking tools that had such GREAT installation instructions! I recommend this for anyone with the Dewalt DW 788 20" scroll saw!

The greatest invention for the dewalt 788
First of all I would like to say thank you frank for such a great invention it makes a world of difference when making inside cuts especially if you have a ton in a work piece. It is very easy to Install took about ten minutes the hardest part is making the modification the the plastic piece that holds your power switch and that is still a piece of cake I don't know why I waited so long to order one I would recommend to anyone that owns a dewalt dw788 also I received 4 days earlier than they said it would be here. I don't usually do reviews but I had to for such a great product. Great transaction will do business with him again. And for special tools all it takes to install is a torx 25 bit and a Allen key not that big of a deal.

Why didn't I learn of this earlier!
I have never figured out why they made the Dewalt 788 scroll saw without this device. At first I thought mine was defective. I have always struggled to hold the arm up, using a block of wood, anytime I needed to insert the blade into a starter hole. Just by accident, I saw this Lifter - and I'm so glad I did. This device is so easy to use and totally changes the ease of holding up the arm. It is a very well made product and easy to install. The instructions are so detailed, plus there is a video on You Tube detailing the installation. Anyone who owns one of these scroll saws should get this! Just wish I had know about this when I bought my scroll saw!

Don't be alarmed by the insructions
When I first read the instructions I was alarmed t the thought of drilling holes in my brand new scroll saw. What if I drilled the wrong pace ruining it? I read the instructions again the second day and followed them precisely. It worked perfectly. The lifter works perfectly, and is so much easier to use than blocking the head up with a piece of wood. I don't understand why a device like this is not a art of the OEM machine. It should be.

Works well
Product does work and is fairly easy to install. You do have to cut or drill the outer black plastic cover. It's the only thing like it that I have found, so for that, it is worth every penny.
