A disturbing animé, but a masterpiece !
This Japanese cartoon dated 1991 is certainly one of the most disturbing masterpieces of Japanese animation. The narrative plot depicts the evolution of elegant teenagers, at the dawn of femininity, girls from a good family perfectly educated but nevertheless tortured and subject to dark impulses of the darkness of the human soul. The themes addressed mix suicide, drug addiction, awakening to female homosexuality and the assumed perversity of fraternal love. The author of the manga, Riyoko Ikeda is a particularly refined and intelligent Japanese woman, who has been able to integrate into this Japanese cartoon, interesting elements of Japanese and French culture. Precisely, being myself a French-Algerian from France, I had followed the first 13 episodes in French when it was broadcast on French television in 1993. Of course, given all these themes addressed, this magnificent Japanese cartoon was censored and put to a halt by arousing a scent of scandal in France, at the time, which was not to displease me! Through an American friend, I rediscovered this monumental work of Japanese animation, whose psychological aspect questions the depths of the soul of young women in bloom and more generally, of the human being. The music is also exceptional, signed by Kentaro Haneda, one of the best of all time. The duo Osamu Dezaki/Akio Sugino, who are no longer featured in Japanese animation, sublimates the drawings and the magnificent penciled sequence shots. In short, I would say that "dear brother" is a work not to be put in all hands, nevertheless if you dare allow yourself to dive into a World of exquisite pleasures, then go for it, and enjoy "Dear Brother", one of the most magnificient animé that wonderful Japon had produced for animé fans !

Anime Gold
I heard about this anime and was curious to buy it! I’m glad I did. It is SO good and the animation is amazing! There is a lot of narration from the main character and there are cutscenes that just showcase the art/ as she talks, but it is just marvelous to look at. I have two more episodes left and I’m not ready at all. Lol! I highly recommend watching this especially if you want to get into classic anime. It’s a hard watch sometimes (there is bullying, manipulation, su*c*de) , but it’s packed full of drama. I was invested!

Retro shoujo…licensed!
Never in a million years would I have imagined a licensed subtitled release here in HD. I first saw this anime in the late 90’s as a teen watching the technogirls’ fansub on VHS and was amazed. Discotek was unexpected to release Unico and now Oniisama e…wow.

"Dear Brother"…
