The Obsidian Ascent: Emerald City Dragons - Book 1

This book has plenty of action, interesting characters—both human and nonhuman--and vivid settings with descriptions integrated with the adventure. Obsidian Ascent begins with unresolved problems and unrevealed secrets, continues as both are revealed to be more complex than at first believed, and ends with satisfying resolution and revelation. I especially liked the vivid and concrete way in which the author described Alley’s struggle to control her strange powers so that my imagination could take hold of it and participate in her inner turmoil. I also appreciated the idea that magic and technological discoveries aren’t so very different. As wise as one of his Mages, Wes Grandmont III crafted a story that both sates his readers’ hunger for exciting and imaginative entertainment, and at the same time, leaves them thirsting for more from these characters, worlds, and amazing escapades. I've already started the next book in this series and have been hooked from the start.

Alley is forced to run for her life, while searching desperately for answers, and struggling to control a wild and mysterious energy coming from within her.Excitement blazes throughout this urban fantasy debut novel, as shape shifters, fire-spitting dragons, giant mechs, and powerful magic collide with a modern day Seattle. The Obsidian Ascent is a fun, action-packed wild ride, and is best enjoyed while drinking a hot cup of coffee, with cream and sugar. I'm looking forward to what comes next!

I enjoyed reading this book, however it took be awhile to fully understand exactly what was happening so it took me awhile before I started really liking it. I definitely recommend the book and I plan on reading the free books that you can request from the author. I think it would have been better to add the prologue to this book or release the prologue first. It would have made things flow better.

This is a fast paced action fantasy with an intriguing take on magic that is built into the world along with the characters. Grandmont leaves some crumbs behind for further exploration, hopefully seeding some twists and turns in the plotline of his next book. I have read quite a bit of dragon fantasy and cannot compare it to another story that would do it justice. It was fun to read and easily makes you look forward to the next one.

It pulls you in and you do not want to put it down! I read it in 3 days! Can not wait for more! Great storyline Wes!
