Which tension color is recommended for a 10 yr old ?

It depends what the child is attempting to accomplish. Is it intended for rehabof an injury? if so check with the doctor or physical therapist. OR Is it to strengthen for a particular sport? If so, than how far along is the strength in that hand of fingers. Typically the 3 lb is for the elderly with arthritis or rehab from an injury. While the 5 & 7 pound are the most popular for all ages. However, advanced athlete find the 7 & 9 pound too "easy" and then need to advance to the PRO (more than likely too large for a 10 year old hand)You may want to look at either the TWO packs with TWO tensions , or the FOUR pack withall four tensions 3,5,7,9. Fr a child stick with the regular Gripmaster NOT the PRO.

No, you will need to replace the entire grip.

Is simply squeezing it enough or are there any specific exercises I should try out?

Like others, I am not aware of specific exercises. I do, however, turn it "upside down" , putting my fingertips to palm side of exerciser, and depress two of the plungers with my thumb - thus exercising that oft-neglected digit. 

Great at what it purports to do

Great at what it purports to do. Beware of carpel if you overuse this. My left hand's wrist started to hurt when I used it for a while, so now I use it very sporadically. I bought it in order to keep my fingers in shape for my guitarwork. However, it did not seem to help me much there. Seems like this won't help you avoid regular practice if that was what one is looking for...
