What is the weird little "hook" type thing for...this is not at all like what came on the flush valve?

how do you attach hook to chain and flush lever?

Does anyone now the diameter of the chain? I'm using it for something else.

Is this different from a standard light pull chain I can get? I've been using pull chains for years and they rust and break 2-3 times a year.
